I have never flown on a 747. I want to fly on one just once to experience it, but I don't want to travel someplace internationally. I just want to do it spur of the moment, preferably UA. Are there any inter-u.s. routes served by a 747 on any carrier? What is the aboslute biggest plane that serves a domestic route? Thanks!

Some operators used to operate 747s on short-haul flights after a transcontinental journey. Of these, you may want to look into Royal Air Maroc, CAS-JFK, with service to Montreal. I do not know if this service still exists, though.

There's nothing wrong with stepping on foreign soil. Dollar still goes a long way in Europe and they've got good cheese. And you've have a choice of carriers flying 747s to get there.

I recently had my first flight on a B747-400. It was from DEN TO LAX. I was really going to San Diego, but I too booked a 744 just to fly on it. My aunt had to drive 2 hours to pick me. It was Business on UA, and it was awesome! Upper deck! Book that flight.

When did you fly UA DEN-LAX? I looked in the timetable and there are no -400's operating that route at least anymore.

I know someone who once flew JFK-BOS in a 747, but I think it was a spur-of-the-moment type arrangement by the airline. The Delta Shuttle flies I think every few hours between LGA and BOS, such a short hop that they never even reach a real cruising altitude. On SWA a real short hop is West Palm Beach - Tampa. Okay, tangent... sorry.

book a UA shuttle flight from SFO-LAX and pray there is fog. They will cancell the 737 flights and put in a 747 to open up slots

Sorry this is so late. I booked mine for Spring Break, I think for the 20th of March. The aircraft, N171UA, then continued onto Melbourne. Hope that helps
