Hey everyone, I've noticed quite alot of delays on flights coming from the Canaries tonight. Here at DUB EI have cancelled a flight and FR, OK, BY
all have delays of about 2-3 hours. Anyone have any idea about what's going on? Just to mention the weather looks fine.

Hmm, here at AMS the inbound flights from the Canaries are delayed as well:

HV 0510 Fuerteventura 01:20 Expected 05:20
HV 0108 Las Palmas 01:50 Expected 21:00 (this one has another reason I think, probably a technical fault  eyebrow  )
OR 0128 Arrecife via Fuerteventura 02:25 Expected 04:55

See:

Quoting Ryanair.com:
Due to an unexplained go slow by the Canary Islands Air traffic control, Ryanair flights to and from the Canary Islands have been delayed in some cases by up to 10 hours.

Ryanair is seeking to establish the reason for this unexplained go slow by Air traffic control from AENA, the government agency responsible for the supervision and management of Air traffic control within Spain and the Canary Islands. Once the reason for this go slow is established from AENA, Ryanair will immediately advise our passengers. In the meantime passengers can expect that their flights will be delayed until further notice. Ryanair sincerely apologises for this inconvenience, which is completely outside of our control.

Air traffic controllers are negotiating the labour collective agreement for next year.

Unions, in order to pressure for this agreement, are not covering the unavailable ATC or those not showing up for work and no overtime hours were done. This is the main reason for air traffic restriction and for delays of more than 5 hours in the Canaries.

NCL-TFS-NCL flights have had mega delays of over 10 hours and one flight was even coached from another airport. I thought it had something to do with the weather here but looks like it's the good old ATC who are causing more problems than the snow.

Latest from CFMU in brussels:

+++ CANARIAS SITUATION UPDATE +++ . DUE TO ATC EQUIPMENT (ELECTRICAL POWER FAILURE) IN CANARIAS THERE ARE VERY HIGH DELAYS DUE TO THIS THE FMD HAS RE-CONFIGURED THE AIRSPACE (IN COORDINATION WITH CANARIAS FMP) AND NEW REGULATIONS HAVE BEEN IMPLEMENTED.

So, not a go slow on this occasion...  Wink

Maybe, maybe not.

Remember the Eurostar trains last week which all broke a few days after a strike was called off? Though in all fairness it was most likely a fault with the hardware it does raise a few eyebrows.

When do the French renegotiate their contracts? Big grin

Arkefly had CS-TFK B757 in ACE Sunday evening to cover for lack of
B737-8's, the flight from AMS finally arrived this Morning so
those delays are due Plane shortage rather than the ATC issuie.

There was a two hour ATC stopage Sunday morning with no departures
between 1000-1200, just after 1200 it was like the flood gates had
opened!

cheers
