Delta Boeing 747-100 Info/Mem.

How many of these did Delta operate and when?? On E-Bay there is stationary from a DL747 that I am thinking about buying. Any info on the DL747's is appreciated for my new website about airlines. Credit will be given to that person if wanted.

Delta took delivery of 5 747-132's between September 1970 and November 1971. The first aircraft (N9896) was returned to Boeing in September 1974 and within 3 years the remainder of the fleet followed.

Delta initally ordered the 747-100 for flights across the Atlantic. However, these were the days before deregulation. The CAB didn't give Delta the trans-Atlantic flights it wanted so they had to use their 747s on flights to Los Angeles from Atlanta with a stop in Dallas. The demand wasn't great enough for that large of an aircraft so the sold them back to Boeing and bought the L1011 Tristar. They did use a Pan Am 747-100 painted in Delta colors for an interchange to London.
