Hey all,

With the death of TED (finally!!) are all of the ex-TED birds (Y156) converted to the new 12F/132Y configuration?? I haven't been paying too much attention but it seems I haven't seen an all-coach A320 around in a long time.

I flew BWI-LAX on November 27th on what smelled and looked like a brand-spanking new 320.
No doubt it was right out of the shop.

The last flight on a Ted A320 was two weeks ago. They are all converted and have leather interiors too. You can tell which planes were those since they have a smaller first class galley and an extra row of economy seats.

Yes, and alos by looking at the nose number; 41xx and 42xx are ex-Ted aircraft.

Also does anyone know what is happening with the 752s? The one has had the new leather seats for months now. Are they all going to get the new seats?

I believe it was a LAS-SFO flight, but I don't remember correctly. All Ted conversions were done at the San Francisco maintenance base.

Yes they were all repainted. Many were repainted but stayed in the Ted configuration.

I believe in the normal process of replacing seat covers, all the domestic fleet will get leather. It will take about 6 years though since that is the D check cycle.

I don't know what is going in with Y class but UAs entire domestic fleet is being retrofitted with leather seat covers in F by the end of the year.

So with UA's all domestic fleet (except for p.s.) with leather seats, economy plus and a nice domestic First seat and new carpeting and bulkheads, what "domestic legacy carriers" will be better than UA? If they get food sorted out next and planes are getting cleaner with each day and on-time performance improving....how will we complain about them anymore!?The new FA uniforms (which I haven't seen yet?) I guess!!

Each has their pros and cons. United's lack of AVOD and wi-fi in the vast majority of its domestic fleet are two major drawbacks, but E+ and leather seats are quite nice. Delta matches them on the leather seats (though I give an edge to United due to the winged headrests), lags on E+, but has wi-fi and AVOD on much of its domestic fleet (and has stated that the entire domestic fleet will have wi-fi at the minimum, AVOD on all but the -88s). Continental is getting to be in the same boat - AVOD coming fleet-wide and trialing the wi-fi now.

UA E+ you dont think is a good product? Does DL, AA, CO have an E+ offer? I recall when AA did it throughout economy, but then went back to "filing cabinet" seating. I don't recall seeing them on any airline but UA. I do agree on UA winged head rests, the winged headrest (Same as the old international C seats are AWESOME! They actually hold your head up and the cushioning is great. Will UA get AVOD & wi-fi and close the gap?

UA E+ you dont think is a good product?

Its Y class with extra leg room. Try Y+ on BA and then you will see what a real Y+ is like.

I would say Wi-Fi is more likely than PTVs/AVOD

Quoting DeltAirlines (Reply 15):

DoD is so much better than what CO has. All CO has is LiveTV and it isn't free like Delta. Delta has tru AVOD while CO only has TV and I believe a few movies on a loop.

yep.

It's still better than the offerings of any other US carriers, so I fail to see your point.

But it also has the price of Y class, at least for the Elites. And even for those who pay the few extra $, it tends to be very well worth it. People who sit in E+ aren't looking for better service or better seats, they are looking for more legroom, and a lot of people are willing to pay for that. As for the Elites, it's one of the best perks IMO; extra legroom for no extra price.

Some airlines try to pretend that they have superior Economy seats and sell them. Airlines are charging for exit rows and bulkheads. What got me laughing is that US charges extra for the aisle/window seats in the first few rows of economy and acts like they are premium and charges extra when in reality they are the same.

The awesome thing about economy plus is that elites who make last minute reservations still have aisle and window seats to choose from.

Internationally BA is better although they charge for it. On short haul flights down to regional jets, UA economy plus is almost as comfortable as BA Club Europe. UA (and most US carriers) short haul first class beats European carriers when it comes to comfort and seating. Lounge access and food is a different question.

I was NOT comparing BA to UA. I am well aware of BA's enhanced coach (don't they call it "World Traveler"? All I'm saying is that UA's Economy Plus is better than any other USA airline with 5" extra space. Which is a lot compared to the filing cabinet we are so often shoved into. Plus, if you have even a little status, you can get in or for a reasonable upcharge which most companies are willing to pay. It's not Buckinham Palace, but at least your legs fit in!!!!
