Hi fellas,

when going on a trip to HongKong and Singapore, which airlines (Cathay, Singapore) would you choose and why ?
I assume both are very good airlines, also both offering PTVs in coach.
Any experiences ? Legroom ? Food ?
Thanks a lot.

what type of a/cs would you like to fly on? That's the question I would ask before I decide. I think both SIA and CX fly 777 btwn SIN and HKG. They use 744 as well.

you can have both....fly to SIN with 777 and back to HKG on a 747 (or vice versa)

i flew SQ's Raffle Class last year from SYD to HKG....it was a very good experience.....and i flew the B777 for the first time!!!!! it was a 777-200 (HKG to SIN)....and i would have a chance to fly on the 777-300 from SIN to SYD....but they had cancelled it....i was so disappointed  Crying

anyway....i dunno about SQ's Y class (i dun mind trying it though)....but personally....i would go for CX....their food and service are always excellent (at least on all my flights)....legroom is ok.....i'm 6'1 and i dun find it too bad!!!

Both airlines offer decent service on what is one of their most competitive routes. But just beware you don't get booked on one of Cathay's A340s leased from Air China. They don't have PTV's and appear a bit worn.

I believe the A340's leased from Air China have already left the fleet, having been replaced by newer A340's.

Hi:

I have travelled both airlines, and I can tell you that Singapore Airlines is much better. Last time I travelled in CX was in economy, LHR-HKG, and the seats were a bit cramped, so I can not tell you about their First and business class, but I presume their are good. I have travelled in all classes in SQ, so, I would say SQ Economy Class is much better thatn CX one. Business Class is great, and First even better. The service is marvellous and seat, I don´t have words to describe how confortable they are.
BTW, I´ll be flying in SQ, next month on 8th of June, LHR-SIN-JKT, and then in the beginning of July, JKT-SIN-MEL, and finally in August, MEL-SIN-LHR.

Thanks,
Manuel Dionízio

OK, thanks for your replies.
I'd go from Germany so the aircraft would be a 744 on both airlines.

Thanks a lot

I flew both CX and SQ B744 before and both in Y classes. I will say that both are excellent, although SIA is a little more better.

No matter which airline,

enjoy!

The Air China aircraft have not left CX's fleet yet. They are due to leave in a couple of months time, being replaced by SQ A340s at around the same time.

They are both excellent airlines. Doesn't matter if you fly CX or SQ.

I wouldn't worry about being put on the leased A340's because they fly to Turkey(have i got this right?) and Malaysia. I have travelled on these aircraft and I can tell you that there are NO PTV's and are a bit worn.

Overall, I would pick Cathay Pacific because with my experiences the food was better and so was the service. Entertainment was around the same, but seat pitch was more on Singapore air.
If I had the choice, Cathay Pacific would be my choice.
