Last night I went to LAX to watch QF Flight 12 take off. Since I now live in VA now, it rare for me to see an A380, so since am I visiting my home town, I went to LAX to see a big bus take off . So QF 12 Super, taxi to runway 24L and turn on to the runway. The A380 slightly spooled up, then spooled down and went into a hold on 24L, then the super jumbo slight spooled up again then spooled down. The a/c later, taxi down 24L, then QF12 taxi around the AA hangers and park at the satellite terminals at the end of runway 24. Today I saw an A380 parked in the QF parking lot at LAX. So any body here know what happen to QF Flight 12 last night, and why it could not take off?

If you are talking about on the 3rd, flightaware does not show any flight plan for an A380 on the 3rd. Not sure for the reason for this. In fact, there is no flight for any QF flight 12 on the 3rd either.

If this and what happen on QF93, had happen on an US own airline, the airline would have got fined by the FAA. QF should know better than leaving people on a plane for more than three hours, even if it is a giant roomy A380. Well they still one of my favorite airlines.

I am disgusted at Qantas over this. A very poor way to treat passengers on the A380. IF QF was a USA airline they would have been fined under new laws for detaining pax

Where's the passion gone out of the airline industry? The smell of jetfuel and the romance of taking a flight....

Sorry, not yet! Those rules are not in effect yet.

How did they treat them? Unless you know more than is printed in the media--and we all know they never lie--you have no idea how they were treated. The article only covers the amount of time they were on the airplane. For all we know they might have had wine, food, and dancing girls!

Irrelevant. If it was a UA flight they would have returned to the gate to avoid the fine.

Sitting 15 hours on a plane is bad enough but having that potentially made 19 hours+ is not tolerable

Before you jump the gun get the facts...

US Customs would not allow Qantas to disembark due to Customs requirements, re screening and another reason which is not publicly available but has to do with US security. Do you really think Qantas would intentionally leave passengers onboard an aircraft for 3+ hours?? IFE was switched on, Cabin service was started, everyone was happy...
Once landed in MEL they may of got compensated for the delay also... Wink

Hope that explains it better for you JetFuel.

There is lots of things that are going on behind the scenes that passengers have no idea...new rules implemented inflight in regards to Cabin Crew and Pilots, new IFE procedures etc etc... The media will have no idea either and as such because it is Security sensitive, Qantas cannot comment on it.

There are many other factors going on here some of which have not been reported.

 checkmark
Even if they had been allowed to disembark, because of the new security rules in place all passengers would need to be rescreened... this is not the simple lags and metal detector anymore.. it is the pat-down search. With over 400 passengers this would have taken a long time and achieved very little if anything to make the passengers more comfortable. Better to keep them onboard with IFE and food.
