American Airlines has opened a new lounge at MIA for unaccompanied minors and elderly guests requiring assistance who transit via MIA. The lounge is 3,200 square feet and next to gate D23 with separate areas for minors and elderly passengers.

The lounge features, among other things, free snacks and drinks, video game machines, free computers loaded with children games, and a small library.

Sounds great! Is this the only one AA has so far?

Next trip: SLC-LAX-JFK-LAX-SLC on AA, gotta say goodbye to my beloved 762!

Good to know inn a cost cutting environment AA is adding amenities. A great idea and hopefully will generate some good-will, given the numerous "lost UM" incidents, on various airlines, we've heard of in the past.

DL has (or had in 2005) a similar lounge at ATL. My son spent an hour or so in there, while traveling SFO-ATL-BCN as a UM.

This is a great idea! I hope AA and more airlines add this once things are on the up and up again.

SQ and BA have a similar lounge in SIN. They had(have) free games, movies and magaizines but no free snack!

Similar to the lounge they have at DFW by C2.

Smart idea - maybe it will remove a little bit of the organized chaos at Miami (no - before anyone misinterprets - I am not referring to the new terminal itself, which is great, but rather the general tenor of how things sometimes go down in Miami).

AA has had something similar in ORD for years. I remember traveling as an UM and they had books, games, TV etc (this was in the 80s). I know in ATL DL has "Dusty's Den" but I don't know what they offer, beyond a small area to keep the UMs until their flight.

Well done AA!

Dave

Can I have a mojito on this flight?

I can remember DL's UM room in DFW pretty well. It was maybe about 500 sq. ft., with a TV at one end. While the TV helped, overall, it was boredom city.

AA had a temporary facility before in Miami, and now this is the permanent location.

Indeed BA also has them at LHR and LGW for UMs.

BAA, as airport operator has responsibility for assistance passengers as required by law, so those lounges were handed over to BAA, but BA did also have such lounges in the past.

IIRC Lufthansa have had their UM lounge in FRA for years. I remember using it several times when traveling as a UM, back in the days... Though IIRC them charging me (us), for using the Lounge aling with the assistance.
