At about 3:00 pdt, I was driving and saw a DL 757 take-off from Long Beach Airport today. Does anyone know why it was here? Has DL upgraded their service to LGB?

Same reason there were 3 Sun Country flights -- BCS game charters.

There were almost 150 extra related GA movements also.

Why LGB one might ask? Because said tour company probably found a less expensive hotel in the south bay than around here in Pasadena. Also allows them to more easily visit Disney and queen Mary as part of package.

Two Delta 757s bringing Alabama Football team back to TCL.The Sun Country flight is probably a fan charter to BHM.

Indeed. Here they both are:

Both headed to ATL now. Interestingly, they both flew BHM-SNA using the same flight numbers on New Year's Day.

SNA was closest to their hotel. They stayed in Costa Mesa and practiced at Orange Coast College.

Lots of interesting movements associated with the BCS game. In addition to the DL and SY departures from LGB, CO op'd a B753 to AUS.

From LAX alone, FL has op'd 10 charters to BHM and 1 to MGM.

A breakdown of the (easily identifiable) BCS game associated movements from LA area airports:

BUR - 63
EMT - 2
HHR - 3
LAX - 42
LGB - 12
ONT - 4
POC - 1
SMO - 18
SNA - 7
VNY - 30

I believe this was the University of Texas team charter back home. They have been using CO all season for their charters.
