A smart move by BA. They are calling all BD Diamond Club card holders to join Executive Club promising them to match their status without even taking a single flight.

Interisting move

Other topic :

LCY-PMI will be served 6 times weekly in Summer (daily except day 3)
LCY-IBZ will be increased to 4x weekly on days 1-3-5-7
LCY-AMS down from 4 daily to 3 daily.

When are the schedules going to be finialized? Are LGW flights fixed for the summer (there is a huge decrease of capacity compared to Summer 09)?

Next flights : BRU-ZRH-CAI (LX)/ BRU-FCO-TLV (AZ)

The Irony here is that many of the BMI passengers have probably ditched BA in the past as a result of their FFP!

.

Not quite true by saying 'all' BD Diamond Club members. You have to be resident in either Israel, Belgium, Netherlands or the Ukraine. This ties in with BD ending services to these countries.

How does BA know who has status on BD and what their contact information is?

Well I would say a) you need to provide a scan of your card or screenshot of your BD account showing status

and b) you would need a BA exec club address in one of the eligible countries??

Oh, I guess I misunderstood the OP. What you're saying makes sense. I thought by "BA Calling" them, it meant that BA was proactively calling (by phone) BD members and offering them a status comp.

LCY-AMS down from 4 daily to 3 daily.

It looks like only the Friday schedule is down from 4 to 3, at least ba.com still allows bookings for 4x daily on Mon-Thu for April 2010. Flights flown by Embraer 170 and 190SR aircraft.

Since this week, Cityjet increased the frequencies from 8 to 9 daily. (all flown by ARJ85).

I have checked July's schedule and it seems that AMS is down to 3 daily flights.

Yes, but this is a normal summer reduction. AMS-LCY is a heavily business-orrientated route and demand drops in July. During the summer months, they can better fly these aircraft to IBZ and PMI. From mid-September the route goes back to 4x daily.

That's a pretty good deal. However when was this offer started? Because it appears to be a little contradictory.

"If you’re not a member of the Executive Club yet, please enrol here."

but then in the T&C's:-

"This promotion is valid for new and existing British Airways Executive Club members, enrolled and resident in Belgium, Israel, The Netherlands or Ukraine on 1 January 2010, who are also members of the bmi Diamond Club frequent traveller programme."

So is it too late to sign up for this offer if you're not already a BAEC member in one of the qualifying countries?

It is true that when the weather or any other event disrupts travel and requires a reduction in flights in and out of LHR, BA always seem to cancel domestic flights rather than other shorthaul and any longhaul flights. I believe their logic is that there are other means of transport - road and rail - to domestic locations that are not available to many other locations.

They also seem to follow the policy of canceling by destination. I suspect that this is because it is easier for them and, indeed, clearer for their customers, if they announce, for example, "no flights to Edinburgh" than announcing that this flight to EDI will fly but that one will not. Whether or not flights from LCY to both EDI and GLA mean that they are "favoured" canceled destinations over ABZ and MAN when BAA require BA to reduce the number of flights they operate from LHR - which on normal days average 550 a day - I do not know. But it is possible.

Finally BA probably do take a proportionally bigger hit than many other airlines when services in and out of LHR have to be reduced. It is, for example, more reasonable to expect BA to cancel a domestic flight than to have to divert an SA 346 or a CX 744 that started their journey to LHR long before the problem arose. And once they have arrived at LHR it is less reasonable to ground them than a 319 bound for EDI.

Anyone living in Israel, Belgium, Netherlands or the Ukraine want to do a good turn and let me 'live' with you for say ten minutes while I fill out the form?! I would love to take this offer but sadly I am BD gold card holder in the UK. It is a real shame too because I do use the AMS flight quite often and I will be very sad to see it go.

LH has been offering status match to pax holding gold/silver card of other alliances, but you have to take an LH flight. EY will match a gold card for a year.
