Not able to give an accurate answer on this one I'm afraid, as I am nowhere near Gulf or Amsterdam, but I would imagine it is probably due to poor passenger loads on that route, or possibly that they were getting reasonable loads but could get better ones elsewhere. I don't know about Gulf's financial status, but if they were in some economic instability then routes are likely to go (I dont know if they are or not, just suggesting it as a possible reason).
