DL has issued a warning on non rev travel to JNB. They highly advise against it. only 2 non revs have made it on in the past week. DL states high passenger loads and weight and balance has been cause.

On the surface it looks positive. Looking a little deeper,it depends on how much of a payload restriction they are having to take,ie,how many empty seats and if any baggage and cargo is getting bumped. That's not to say it cannot be compensated by a premium yield that they may be getting due to the flight being non-stop. Bottom line,it's sucks to be an employee trying to travel standby on that particular flight.

Even though we Americans could care less about soccer, I'm sure this flight will prove VERY popular once the World Cup begins...

Flying in the middle seat of coach is much better than not flying at all!

They added 1x weekly ATL-JNB on Saturdays during the World Cup. Hardly a hooligan charter operation, but it is an extra flight.

Not necessarily true. Check this link out :

http://www.sa2010.gov.za/en/node/2733

To quote : "Presently, the USA is leading the list of foreign countries for the sales phase with 22 942 tickets, followed by the UK 20 232, Mexico 7 981, Germany 7 697, Australia 6 277 and Brazil 4 760."

This was 14 December 2009. SA is expecting the bulk of foreigners coming in to be of USA and UK origin....

SA)">DL states high passenger loads

South African schools resumed after the 6 week summer break this last week. The second/third week of January is always a hectic time to travel to/from and within SA.

Does anyone know if they are going to restart CPT for the world cup? They have those frequencies secured...

We had at least 8 non-revs in business last night and everyone made it on. But there are often weight and balance issues out of JNB. It gets even more "iffy" to non-rev when it gets warm in JNB.

The JNB-ATL flights this week all have 100+ seats open. Unless the warning is meant generally as opposed to recently, I'm not quite sure what they were talking about.

Here, TYS, there are some 20 soccer fields in the city parks. Some crazy people chasing that soccer ball all the time. I'd say people here do care about soccer  Wink
