Have been trying to get from PHX to ABQ since yesterday, still sitting in the Sky Harbor airport. Yesterday, there were predictions of high winds in the PHX area, so SWA killed most PHX departures from 2PM on. Apparently a few flights were released later in the evening, and I didn't notice anything more than a gentle wind/rain combo in the area. Oh, and an auto auction tent apparently blew across an interstate in Scottsdale.
Today they were forecasting snow in ABQ, so my rebooked flight and a few others were canceled outright. Weather in ABQ was manageable with United, US and a few others having no problem with getting flights in. Flights later today appear to be on track to be released.
Wonder if we're seeing a hyper sensitivity to delayed flights now?
I don't necessarily think so. Pre-emptively canceling flights due to weather is nothing new, it has been happening for a long time, before any of the recent passenger rights issues started gaining momentum.
