Since the DL/NW merger is in its final days, and the res cutover/NW->DL code cutover will occur very shortly, I was wondering how many of the RJs/Saabs have been repainted into DL colors and how many still have yet to be repainted? I know we have spoken mainly about the mainline jets, but not too much about the RJs and Saabs. Any info?

The saabs should be almost finished. There might be one more to go, but I don't think so. THey are only painting 26 saabs. The rest will be remaining in NW colours as they will leave the fleet this year. The Mesaba 900 painting is supposed to wrap up next month. No Mesaba 200s have been painted yet (2 ex-comair planes are of course in Deltaflot colours). They are scheduled to begin the paint line the second week of February.

The saabs are indeed done at 26. They're doubling up on the 900 painting and as mentioned, the 200s will start in Feb. As for Pinnacle and Compass are actively painting but I have no knowledge of the numbers in new paint.

Pinnacle is painting 2 a week, and Compass recently resumed painting after a several week hiatus. The list on mspspotters.net is fairly complete, although they seem to be missing some Saabs and Pinnacle CRJs.

I saw a NW Airlink livery on a Saab at HIB on Wednesday. How many Saabs are being retired?

Well, we know that 23 of the 49 are confirmed to be retired. However, Richard Anderson did say that all t-props would be gone in a few years. So... the writing is on the wall.

If you have any updates, I would surely appreciate them.

I don't know the exact aircraft that have been painted, just how many have passed through GLH. Unfortunately, the Saabs come in there on scheduled service every day so I wasn't able to keep accurate track of them, but I'll take Azj's word that they are done since they've certainly had enough time.

The saabs are done as reported by our weekly CEO update and special "paint update" counter in the newsletter.

The last one I was able to track was N429XJ. Is it possible that all Saabs older than N429XJ are the ones that are to be retired first?

I know I saw a few Saabs in the old color scheme in Memphis and I always see a ton os the Pinnacle CRJs in the bowling shoe scheme. The -900's all seem to be in the new scheme, guess they're high on the list. Compass seems to be half and half.

There are many CRJ-200s that have yet to be repainted. I would say that only a third of them are in Delta colors as of right now.

Yes.....when asked what would happen with the Saabs, he stated they would be replaced with 50 seat RJs. I don't know if he was talking about those that will be left or those that are being parked.

Previous to the recent chat, he said all t-props would be gone in a few years. So, I would imagine his comment in the chat can be taken both ways. While the first 23 are parked 50 seaters will backfill and eventually when they all go away as well. What he didn't say was that not all small markets are likely to survive and that nothing, except for maybe a competitor will be doing any backfilling.

Interesting, I wonder if RA is planning another DCI shuffle?

I think they haven't been painted because they already fly the DL brand. There are only so many paintshops and it's pretty obvious it's more important to rebrand all the PMNW aircraft first, before spending lots of resources on currently branded DL a/c.

As for shuffling of DCI a/c... Why would the paintjob matter if the planes remain in the DL network?

Didn't I also read somewhere that they were thinking of adding F/C seats to the -700s?

Yes. 9 First Class seats. 700's are suppose to be going to many of the new LGA routes this summer when the US Airways transfer is complete. DL wants first class on these routes. Haven't heard specifics but assuming all the 700's - ASA, Skywest & Comair - will be retrofitted.
