Southwest is going to start fitting Row 44 on all 540 of their aircraft, at a rate of ~15/month. Unlike AirCell, Row 44 uses satellite technology. I would have thought that Satellite internet would cost more to operate..any thoughts on why that was the avenue chosen? The only thing I can think of is that satellite is the only way they would have coverage on their EOW flights.

Well I will admit I am not an expert on this, but I do know that satellite technology offers much greater bandwidth than the older ground-based systems. This will allow more people to log on. Also, there are no "dead zones" with satellite technology. It is basically a new generation of technology.
