Last DL L-1011 Flight Is A Party!

Although the last revenue flight is scheduled for July 31st, the last ship to leave the fleet will depart on August 1st, on a special employees only flight to LAS.

A party will commence shortly thereafter at the Mirage Hotel and Casino, Las Vegas, Nevada.

DL employees will put the old lady to bed, in a one of a kind event.

Have any other DL employees heard of this, or was someone just pulling my leg?

The last DL L1011 will be either N728DA (ship 728) or N1738D (ship 738). Presently 728 is supposed to operate the last revenue flight, but 738 will be held in reserve until July 31 since she is making her last flights the previous day.

Wish it were ship 740....it's got the best looking paint of all the tristars.

By the way, after the flight to LAS, it will then proceed to the boneyard.

Have you guys seen the commerative stickers yet?

Ooh! Did somebody say stickers?

Is there anything special for an interline S4 who is also a Medallion on a K fare waitlisted for upgrade on the last revenue flight?  Smile

I haven't heard anything about any employees-only flight to Las Vegas on the last Tri-star.

Slightly off topic, but is there any reason BWIA couldn't pick up one or two of these tristars and operate them until they get their long term fleet plans in order?

Could it be that BWIA is trying to get rid of the tristars that it currently has?

What is so special about the last flight of a Delta Tristar? Aren't people happy they are being replaced?
They are old, dirty and worn out!

I think that this is probaby true, to an extent, with slight corrections. The retirement flights will be not to LAS, but to Mojave, CA. As with other retirement flights to Mojave, the crew will then deadhead to Las Vegas for a layover before returning to Atlanta. The retirement flights will be open to employees; however, only a limited number of people will be accommodated. Although I don't know of any official "parties" in Vegas after the flights, I would fully expect the crew and passengers to have a good time at the hotel during their layover.
