Following the Ethiopian Airlines tragedy, I was looking at updated Google Earth imagery and came across unusual threshold markings on one of BEY's three runways, RWY 17/35. You can see below the displaced threshold, an unusual looking RWY 35 threshold marking near where it connects with RWY 03/21, while you can see the normal RWY 35 threshold marking at the top after the displaced threshold. Can anyone explain the reason for marking in two places on the runway?
Also, can anyone explain the lack of threshold markings on RWY 34? I was under the impression that threshold markings are placed even if IFR landings are not permitted (which I believe is the case for RWY 34).
