The only thing they are currently scheduled to receive is Wi-Fi, which is currently being installed and should be complete by summer. While it is widely expected they will be getting AVOD, no timeline has been established for this. New seats will come if/when they get AVOD.

Actually, not totally correct. I flew on 2 Delta A320's last week (no AVOD), but they had the new light blue Delta leather seats.

If Delta puts WIFI on these birds AVOD really won't be necessary. It seems like EVERYONE these days either has a WIFI capable cellphone, iPod touch, iPhone, laptop, or netbook. Putting WIFI on the A320s should really bring in some nice revenue.

I'd disagree here. I flew on some DL MD-88s over the holiday break, and there weren't as many people using Wi-Fi as I was expecting. Probably the cost of the service is the reason. With PTVs, you can at least get free satellite TV on domestic flights, while the AVOD movies aren't that expensive.

There is a difference between the actual seat and the seat covers. (Was on an A319 today and observed the same.)

there was a previous thread about what was happening with the NW jets and the A320s weren't getting AVOD right away, they were however at least getting seat covers if not new seats. DL probably hasn't decided how long the A320s will be staying and how the will be utilized once the airlines really start operating as one airline, which is probably why they haven't decided to invest in AVOD for them yet.

I'm guessing the bulk of them will eventually receive AVOD just like the 757s.

The only route out of DTW at this time that has wi-fi and 757s is DTW-ATL - not a long route by any stretch of the imagination (under 600 miles). Only the pre-merger Delta 757s have wi-fi right now; the pre-merger Northwest planes do not.

The nice part about the AVOD is that I can watch movies or live TV without draining my Laptop or iphone's battery by the time i get to Atlanta from San Diego. And the WiFi is kind of expensive for being so slow, if it were faster and I could watch hulu or something i wouldn't mind but charging $12 for something that has a hard time loading facebook is kind of annoying.

If DL is really going to utilize the A320s then they need AVOD to give the fleet a more uniform experience IMO

Would hope that DL would at least install some sort of IFE screens on the NW 319/320 to keep up with the other DL aircraft

Those blue seat covers look cheap. Maybe it's part of their corporate identity, but IMHO the covers look like cheap vinyl things people use on furniture they don't wish to get dirty.

I liked the old blue cloth seats better.

Nothing wrong with real leather seats, but the covers they are installing look cheesy.

WiFi is at best revenue neutral. It is an amenity that is offered for competitive reasons.

Ya i'd rather they just leave the covers off until they install new seats with AVOD and just update the cabin all at once

Give me AVOD. The WiFi's nice, but a perk that I can do without on a medium-haul flight.

Maybe, but so much easier to keep clean than cloth. Disgusting to think of what's hidden in those nasty cloth seats.

That happened quite awhile ago. The NW interior was one of the first things to go away.

Long term they will be putting nice, new, GOOD leather seats in when the AVOD and the rest of the cabin - but since the covers are just temporary, it wouldn't make sense to spend up to buy really nice ones, it'd be a waste.

The permanent leather upholstery they installed on the A330 seats, which will stay, are actually really nice and look very sharp. Closer to the stuff in a nice car than in a taxi. The temporary covers however, I agree, are cheap.

Yeah - those NW cloth seat covers were awful - dirty, ugly, nasty, they were the worst. Leather is WAY more hygenic and stays looking nice a lot longer and a lot better. Even bad leather is a trade up on those awful old seats. There can be really nice cloth seats, kept up well, and nice - but those were not the seats NW had on anything (save maybe the A330s, the cloth on those was still pretty decent).

Even a small move up is a move up.

I can't wait for the final improvements for the fleet to really get underway.

A319 / A320 cabin enhancements/modications:

Completed:
-Replaced all cloth seat covers with new blue leather seat covers (it is still the same seat, just recovered)

Planned to be completed by Summer 2010:
-Installation of wifi (there are one or two that already have been installed, ship 3158 is one of them)

Beyond that, there are no more definete changes.
Items discussed and tenatively planned, but with no firm dates, product, or types:
-Install IFE on the A319/A320 fleet (this could be LiveTV, or AVOD, etc.) Anderson said IFE (eventually) on everything other than the MD-88 and DC-9-50)
-Installation of new seats when IFE is installed (the current seat doesn't support seatback PTVs)
-Reconfigure the A319 by removing a row of F and adding two row of Y

Right now the top priority is on the widebody fleet. It is a huge capital expense to refurbish, install IFE, and lie-flats in the entire 763, 777, and 744 fleet(s). It is expensive.
The narrowbodies are secondary and are not going to happen in the immediate future. The next 18-24 months is focused on widebodies, so don't expect much with the A320 for another 2 years. Keep in mind DL will reevaluate the need for IFE on these fleet types as consumer preferences change and electronics continue to evolve.
