Were they always supposed to come back on a B777 or is it because they won. Also, FlightAware shows that they left a little late? Also, does the NFL use DL or did the Saints choose them?

Thank you for your answers.

each team has a contract with their carrier of choice........not based on the NFL decision for travel.

Miami Airport gave then a water cannon salute for a send off. Nice touch I thought. Was definitely a 767 type.

Teams do not contract for a specific aircraft type, they contract for the carriage of x passengers from A to B. Whoever gets the contract picks a plane from their fleet based on their operational needs. Might be a 767 one way and a 777 the other.

Why did they hug the coast and not go direct? To avoid the Eglin MOAs?

I've wondered this too. Interesting that the players are the ones that probably have the hardest time fitting in the Y seats.

Looks like a routing with an aircraft w/o overwater equipment. However, other flights on that route today are taking the same route.
Is this normal as today's MIA-DFW flights are going over the gulf, overhead MSY, then continuing straight to DFW. MIA-IAH flights go over the gulf, just souoth of MSY before turn west to IAH.

Maybe that's why the NFL teams always insist on taking 767s, 747s or A330s for trips that are sometimes less than an hour and a half or so.

Yeah, the Saints were on their normal DL 763, flight 8871, call sign Who Dat 1.

Also got a water cannon salute upon arrival at Atlantic Aviation.

Friends and family arrived on the 777 and another 752.

The radio was really funny today too with many who dats heard and some pilots calling for 'who dat approach'. Might not ever be another day like today at MSY again, what a great 24 hours.

Here's a slide show of pics,

I was out to welcome them home and I definitely saw a 772 takeoff on R/W10. I got a pic from a distance, not up close as I hoped to

Does anybody know the tail number of the 777?

Also I was looking at the routing and normally the flights just fly right out over the gulf. The only thing I can think of is that the military was conducting exercises out over the gulf and therefore needed to route all commercial flights along the coast.

Who DAT!!
