As I always said, Karachi has customers for every airline.

Its been a month and i have managed to see almost all, the same night as the UL A330 I also saw a high speed right upto the end of the runway take off of a Kyrghyzstan owned TU-134 i think it was a cargo flight becuase only those run the full length of the runway due to the load theyre carrying, seen the same on Air France Cargo 747Fs when theyre fully laden, i have yet to see Malaysia Airlines, Royal Jordanian, Iran Air, Egypt Air and some others Smile

AirMale,

Is this one off affair or is it going to be permanent. Does A330 replace both frequencies or just one?.

If the A320s are taken off the Karachi route then I am wondering where they are going to go?

Hmm... I can smell Hydrabad and Bangalore in UL network soon.

Hi Airlanka! could be a one off service, but someone here did mention that the A320s would only ply on Indian routes in the future and the A330 would be used on flights to Karachi and Dhaka, by the way when are the 320s going to wear the new livery Smile

AirMale,

I am not sure. Now that they have been sold and leased back I am not sure whether they will ever be painted in the new livery. The Air line management wants to get rid of these but the govt. pressure to keep up close links with SAARC nations is compelling them to keep these. Also they want to use the A320 to open up new sub continent routes..primarily Bangalore and Hydrabad when they get approval from Indian govt.

BTW how is the ramp work at KHI these days?

I think the A320s will be retained for regional Indian routes atleast. Arent the A330s used for Dhaka, Delhi and Mumbai?
Also their new updated website (www.srilankan.lk) is pretty good - it has the A320s in new colours - albeit in a tiny computer generated diagram though.

Its been a good 10 years since I was there last, Capt. Picard. I must say, it was a fab sight using the stair cases AT CMB - you got to see those massive TriStar engines so close up.
Apparently bridges are being built now.

I haven't been back for a long time either (although long time for me would be 2 years, more or less).

Shame they are building airbridges, as far as I'm concerned, the only way to arrive at your destination in style is by walking down on to the tarmac!

In this respect, I thoroughly enjoyed arriving in Cape Town last Christmas-beautiful weather, and the B747 looks fantastic!

Capt Picard,

What brought you to Colombo. It looks like from the gear you are wearing you are not on business. Did you like the place? Is it the A340 you are next to?.

Oh it does bring back good memories. I can feel the balmy heat as well.

Good on you boys keep going back to one of the greatest destinations in the world.

Airlanka,

Actually, that isn't me  Smile/happy/getting dizzy .

But I can tell that it is a Gulf Air A340, at CMB.

For my part, I used to visit Sri Lanka very regularly, as I lived in Dubai about 1.5 years ago, and we would stay with friends in Colombo, driving down to the beach on weekends (or Kandy or Nuwara Eliya).

Lovely place!

I was there in 99. and I didn't hear any news of airbridges being built. Keep the stairs I say as it one of the very few airports you con see airplanes right up close.
