Delta's "new" MD-90s - EIS?

Does anyone know when will the first of Delta's "new" (ex-Hello/China Eastern) MD-90s enter service? As far as I know, the first of these MD-90s (N917DN) has been in the mod hangar for quite a while now. I would think that it is almost done and should be ready soon. I can't wait to see the first cabin photo of it, probably with PTVs, making them the first and only PTV-equipped MD-90s in the world. Does anyone know about it?

N917DN is awaiting FAA certification on the IFE system...and according to my friends at Delta, it is taking longer than expected. The last aim-for-date I heard was spring for N917DN.

I wonder what system it is. Could it be the new Panasonic Fusion IFE system, a new ultra-lightweight AVOD system? I have heard rumors that DL was considering to drop Panasonic as their IFE supplier, however, I will believe it when I see it.

We have 3 Hello M90's at GSO right now. And only 1 is in a modified DL livery.

Are you sure this is the final livery for the aircraft?

Does anyone happen to know about the IFE system? Maybe it isn't a new system like I said in the previous post, but possibly DL could be trying to get type certification for the system. I know this was the case with the Wi-Fi systems. After all, DL is the only U.S. operator of the MD-90, and will soon have the only MD-90s in the world with PTVs and AVOD.

All I'm aware of is...this is the first IFE system for the MD90 in the US and I believe that's playing a role, either small or larger in the certification. I do not know if it's a newer Panasonic system than what's in the 73H and 75X.

Correction: First in-seat AVOD IFE system. Delta's existing MD-90s already have overhead IFE (a Matsushita system with flip-down LCDs).

Last I heard the PTV plan has been scrapped. The panasonic system is too heavy and will seriously hinder the effective range of the aircraft. Looks like the same system currently on the MD90 fleet will be installed in these "new" birds as well.

As far as I know, that system is no longer offered by Panasonic. Panasonic's current overhead IFE system is known as the Digital MPES system. Of course, DL could install the old systems that were removed from the 738s that got PTVs, but why install an old tape-based system vs. an all-digital one? Only time will tell what will be done.
