Looking at the schedule in May (picked random date May 18th), there are four flights between MEM and YYZ...two by AC, two by DL...

*AC 7946 YBM X7 MEMYYZ 0645 1000 CRJ 0
UHQVWSL
*DL 5014 /FAY MEMYYZ 0835 1200 CR9 0
BMHQKLUT
*AC 7948 YBM MEMYYZ 1620 1935 CRJ 0
UHQVWSL
*DL 5016 /FAY MEMYYZ 1840 2205 CR9 0
BMHQKLUT

I give the AC service 6-12 months. DL I can see at least one flight stick around for a while based on connections alone.

Next trip: MSY-SEA-GEG-SEA-LWS-BOI-PDX-SEA-LAS on AS

They just announced YYZMEM starting in May. I thought DL was supposed to leave the market completely.

I cant see them staying here long if they are going to serve it with an Rj. The only reason yyz was served from Mem was because it is a hub. With no interline of FF That would mean just local Pax to serve YYZ and there is not enough local traffic to service it

Yes Air Canada just announced service to MEM starting in May. It looks like DL is now going to restart service between the two. Who Cares! DL just did this to try to kill AIr Canada so they can stop it their selves. It's just a game with DL and MEM service. Wish DL would just pack up and get the hell out!

It's all those Elvis impersonators based in YYZ, not to mention the Elvis Sighting Society in YOW.

They were but that was one of their lets drop these NW routes before we actually take a look at them closely like several other routes they "dropped" then decided that it would be best not to drop them.

That's not necessarily true, AC does a lot of transborder service on RJ's from YYZ. They have 2x daily RJ's to places like STL, MCI, and MKE, so it may not be that much of a stretch to make MEM work. However, DL re-starting service could obviously throw a wrench in the gears.

When I did MEM-YYZ on the 200 we normally only had 10-20 pax. This definitely won't last long.

Well, when NW lost my baggage, and sent it to MEM, it sure helped having that frequency!

It depends what fares those passengers are paying. If most are business travellers paying the high unrestricted fares, 20 passengers can generate far more revenue than 50 passengers paying the lowest discount fares. Load factor is seldom a good indication of profitability.

Some of those 10 to 20 passeners may also be connecting to AC's international network, and again probably including some business travellers paying high fares. You hace to consider the total revenue contribution to AC, not just the MEM-YYZ sector.

Of course it's overkill form MEM....which is just not that special and doesn't have much going on...

The LFs to those destinations you mentioned are horrible but they pay runaway fares and many are connecting anyway...the Q400 should help the bottom line of these flights a little...

And what's up with the seasonal MEM-YVR? The loads must be horrible even when you factor connecting traffic....

I'll bet those Saturday-only flights have very good loads.. They're almost certainly for passengers connecting to/from the many Alaska cruises that begin and end at YVR. A high share of the capacity could well be blocked for certain cruise operators.

Come on Burnsie, we all know it was a bit more involved than that. Haven't you ever changed your mind on something when a situation changed or you had more info?

...and YYZ is a hub, and a larger hub than MEM, at that. If the MEM hub can sustain DL's route, why can't the YYZ hub sustain AC's route?

yeah delta is surely going to drop this a little while after AC leaves MEM. Its the typical games i think AC was hoping that DL wouldn't care and not enter.

DL just dosnt want competition for flights to Europe by another carrier via YYZ would be my guess to why DL cares about starting the route

That maybe so...but when DL begins it's draw-down of MEM it will go for good...
