Old news it maybe, but we never tire of hearing of it! And perhaps its neighbours up the road might reflect on the fact that it could have been them; they had their chance and blew it.
Anyway, it's great for Ireland and with EY continuing to expand, the potential for new connections only increases; for example, the recent announcement of 7 new wkly Oz frequencies for EY can only help the success of the Irish route.
This year, EY will carry around 162,000 pax into and out of Ireland; this is very welcome. Hopefully other carriers will be follow suit.

Quoting cc2314 (Reply 3): Will they stick with the a332 on this route?
It wouldn't surprise me if they went up to A333s (two of which they have now taken into their fleet), but I'd expect A330s to be the mainstay of the route; I wouldn't expect to say 777s for a long time, although it's possible at some stage - maybe during the Christmas rush.

Quoting shamrock321 (Reply 9): I dont think anything has been confirmed at all. To be honest I think its 50/50 as to weather they go in straight away or not.
Was there not a press statement at the same time as EY increased its flights from 7-10 weekly of a new lounge being built in T2 when Etihad move from T1 at Dublin.

Didnt someone post a link to EY's plan of having a lounge in T2 or something along those lines? Or am I dreaming?

My thinking is this, when T2 opens and EI and EY move in. 7 of EYs 10 weekly departures will be in the evening time, when most EI flights etc have left. Are the DAA going to want to maintain a small army of people to keep shops et open for just one EY flight? It would make more sense for it to stay in T1 for the time being, the late flight would mix in with the later FR departures.
Does the DAA have a say in wheather EY move straight away or not?
One thing is for sure if EY do move to T2 straight away travelling on thier late flight, airport wise will be a pleasureable experience.
I havnt heard anything about the lounge plans, I wonder will it be ready when the new terminal opens?

Quoting cc2314 (Reply 5): Would be great to see an A340-600 in DUB
I would love to see that but very unlikely that sort of capacity is needed. Increased frequency offers better connection options. The A340-600 does look good in EY colours. It would make a very nice addition to DUB. Anything to break up the EI A320's and FR 738's. In terms of parking it, I can't imagine it being that much of an issue. I'd say the main technical reason why it wouldn't happen would be the runway length at DUB. Even with the A330, there are takeoff weight restrictions.

Taken from Etihad's press release on the increase in flights from Dublin.
Supporting this increase in services, Etihad is planning a new lounge at Dublin airport, which is set to open in 2010.
The new lounge will offer Etihad's premium customers a range of top quality facilities and services, including workstations, a prayer room, a relaxing seating area with Italian leather chairs, a selection of foods from around the world and luxurious bathroom and shower facilities.
Also from the newspapers as well
Middle Eastern airline Air Etihad, from the oil rich United Arab Emirates, has already signed up to move to the new terminal.

Are EI not also in T2? And thus, the last of their short haul will flights still be operating when Etihad leaves. But you are right, it will be a quite time.

The last LHR leaves about 2100 if im not mistaken? Thats the last EI departure believe it or not!! Yes, it will be quiet in departures at T2 after 7pm, but not downstairs at arrivals where it will become extremely busy.

Unfortunatley Shamrock604 to say arrivals will be very busy with EI arrivals, that isnt true. Even mixed with all other airlines arrivals DUB is a very quite place at night. In work at 2245 last night there wasnt a singe passenger in the baggage hall.

Exactly, and fantastic to hear of the increase. Mind you, irrespective of Eithad's 'neighbours up the road', it's sad that EI could have had a piece of that pie, but equally blew it!! Shows a market is there and which, apart from EI, a lot of people realised it for some time

Good news for DUB, making some of my Irish friends pleased, you would think more flights means more good deals. I just can't understand why Finnair has forgotten DUB, not offering services to Asia...

Since when did this happen? After 9pm was always the airport's busy time... any time I have been in the arrivals hall its been very busy at that hour?

I think that scheduling issues might be a factor; if you look at the schedule from MAN, there is just enough time to have a departure from HEL (feeding from AY Intercontinental flights), turn it around and then return to HEL in time for long haul departures, but I think DUB might be a step too far to make that work; I think OS had similar issues re DUB in relation to its own hub. EI has tried HEL and failed; AY used to fly in here (with MD80s and A319s), but I wonder if they'd consider Embraer 170/175s?
As to EY, I see they have won 7 more weekly frequencies, which need to be to regional destinations (I guess that means excluding SYD, MEL and BNE), so that'll offer some more connection opportunities to/from Ireland.
