CEO James McNerney has targeted 2010 for a decision on re-engining the 737, the first clear timeline the company has provided on the future of its narrowbody family of aircraft.

"That will be a call we make this year, it will be a mid-decade intro, if we do it," says McNerney, speaking at the Cowen and Company Aerospace/Defence Conference.

The IAE option was surprising to me. didn't think the V2500 was ever a deciding factor that caused any airliners to lean towards an A320 purchase in lieu of a 737.

I don't find that surprising at all, there is really very little to distinguish a 737NG and A320 series apart cost wise for an airline, so financing may be as important as the actual price and operating cost so the product with a sole source engine may give you less room to negotiate

We're currently discussing this in the Airlines Reviewing Large 737/A320 Backlogs? (by keesje Feb 10 2010 in Civil Aviation) thread, so maybe keep the conversation there?
