I would have to say that by my opinion LOT would be the best.
They operate many new 737s and some 767s,
They also have few ERJs 145 and ATRs on their thin routes.
Dont know about their service though.

I would say that LOT is the best. Though I heard that Malev is also good.

LOT has received several awards lately for the quality of their service. Malev is good, CSA has excellent potential, but LOT is ahead of them.

I'm especially impressed by their far sighted investments in RJs.

Here is an interesting article I've saved earlier in the year:

During ceremonies which were held on February 6, 2001 at Park Lane Hotel in London, LOT Polish Airlines received the prestigious award "Best Airline Based in Eastern Europe 2001". Once again, LOT found itself among the world’s best airlines.

This was the 18th ceremony during which OAG handed out prestigious "Airline of the Year" awards, including the categories of best airline, best first class, best business/economic class for long and short haul, best airline in a given part of the world, best frequent flyer programme, best airport and best www page.

Selections are based on votes cast throughout the world by subscribers of all printed and electronic informational services published by OAG. Hence,
these awards are even more valuable when considering that they are based on the opinions of frequent travelers, particularly persons flying business

Voters turned their attention to the quality of in-flight service, professionalism, promptness, quality of meals etc. Among the competition of many airlines, LOT once again best fulfilled these expectations.

OAG, a firm belonging to the Reed Business Information Group, is a leading independent center offering passengers, corporations, agents and firms from the tourist industry access to information and products related to effective travel planning. OAG’s best known product is its flights schedules which (like other informational services) are distributed through various media including printed guidebooks, internet pages and electronic WAP services.

OAG is also a supplier of databases, analyses and information about products offered by airlines and airports. The firm has offices in Great Britain, the
USA, Germany, Singapore, Hong-Kong and Japan as well as an extensive network of representatives throughout the entire world.

In 1996, 1997, 1998 and 1999 the British magazine, Business Travel World, named LOT the "International Business Airline, Eastern Europe". In 2000 LOT
received Business Traveller’s award of "Best Central and Eastern European Airline" for the third time.

I was going to put down LOT as well, but the ADRIA airways comment made me stop and think...It never even occured to me...Adria was leaps and bounds ahead of the others in terms of fleet planning and codeshare agreements. That said LOT is still a very large player, and I would say is ahead of any other eastern European airline in terms of their service (new call center opening) Their Alliance agreements, although they seemed to have made a poor choice for an alliance. Overall I guess they are probably the best in the East/.

Adria? 7 planes?? Cmon guys. LOT is an airline...Adria-not yet. I am suprised that nobody mentioned Aeroflot? Thay replacing their fleet too with 777,767,737. They are the biggest in eastern europe!
Personaly I think that in few years we are gonna have prette nice crowd of planespotters in WAW. LOT will take over eastern Europe.

PolAir, do you seriously equate big with good? Perhaps you're not familiar with Adria - check them out http://www.adria.si/ and then think twice before you say that they aren't an airline "yet".

On the other mater, what makes an airline good in your opinion? Would Aeroflot be best just because its buying 777s? That somewhat resembles old soviet quantitative mentality.

Come on.

I vote for LOT not because of their size, but because their overall market model, and service.

I am not saying that Adria can be good airline, cause it is small. Read my question though. I am asking question about bigger airlines, so...
If an airline is buying new state of art aircrafts, it is called growing or expending if you ask me.

Malev is the best, because they are the only East European airline which operate the Fokker 70.

My vote is for LOT, but I'll confess that it's the only East European airline I've flown. As I've mentioned before in other threads, LOT has good potential to expand over time. Slovenia, home to Adria, is a country of 2 million people.(A wonderful country, though!) Adria will never expand to any great extent and will remain a niche airline, even if their service is great.
