ATL: Approach Runway Question

Quick question. When on approach to RWY 27L I often notice what appears to be an out of service air strip. What is this?

That used to be a military airfield known as Morris Army Airfield. It's been closed for a number of years due to its' proximity to ATL.

Depends on the time of year, but I have seen a lot of 18 wheel trailers parked all up and down that strip. Plus keep in mind, most military fields are very well built.
