I didn't see anybody post about this plane as of late. I was bored, and pulled up the current history of it. It's back in the system flying. When I pulled up the maintenance reports on our fleet. They never showed 4016 at one of the maintenance stations. I guess they did all the work inside the old United hangar at EWR.

This was the one with the landing gear issue at EWR correct?

If so, that's a decent repair time to get it back flying! With UA having such a high fleet utilization, any bird out of service can hurt.

Yes, this is the one. From the looks of the pics on here. The #2 engine took most of the damage. The right wing tip also. This is the slow time of the year. United has a good % of their fleet in for maintenance.

See UA Gear Collapse EWR 01-10 (by P0sitiveRate Jan 10 2010 in Civil Aviation) . Looks like Jan 10, 2010 for the date of the incident.

I flew on N816UA on 2/7 from MSY-ORD, just a few days after it was put back in service.

There is not that much detail in the ABC News photos, but I can't see any damaged skin or other obvious signs that there might have been frame damage.

I remember years ago at ATL -- UA used to keep wheels, tires, and other parts for the 737 -- out in the open -- at the very end of the T Concourse. But assuming that at EWR there might have been a 319/320 engine mount, a P&W, and a nacelle *just lying around* is a little out-of-the-box.

They would truck everything into EWR to fix the plane. I would assume they brought in mechanics from the SFO to do the work also. They cut down EWR maintenace to the bone last year.
