-Any ideas why this TK 340 is missing one of its winglets? Am I missing something?

I only have few other news:
-TK decided to lease yet another 737-700, let's see if it joins TK or Anadolujet
-By the way any news on Anadolujet? Is TK selling the brand?
-TK just ordered a 777 simulator, I guess the type is here to stay. The rumors of TK getting 3 more Jet Airways 77Ws, any more on that?
-TK still has the 330-300?
-IST just opened another extension to the airport which will include a gate with two jet bridges, mostly for 77Ws.
-Who will be the first to write a TR on the new Borajet ATRs?

Please join us with your valuable inputs on Turkish Aviation news, rumors, suggestions.

Here is our thread from 3 years ago:
Turkish Aviation March 2007 (by TK787 Mar 1 2007 in Civil Aviation)
(Notice the rumor that TK will convert orders for 8 x 738s to 739ERs and Pilotaydin will be switching to 738s.. Great memories.)

According to CH Aviation, Anadolujet is leasing 2 ex-Aeromexico 737-700 bringing the total of Anadolujet fleet to 8 737-700, 3 737-800s and 2 737-400s.

I won't be. I do not like turboprops.. I try to avoid them as much as possible

I am on the other hand off to HKG this Friday (05/03) on TK 777-300ER if all goes well... It will be my first long haul flight on a flat bed... I normally do not sleep well on airplanes.. Let's see if I will manage this time...

Was there not a ramp accident in IST involving an A340 last month?

You should really try them. The newer generation of props are vastly improved aircraft and in many cases even better and more spacious then regional jets.
Turkey is many ways is built perfectly for vast prop operations linking tons of communities.

However your opinion is for some reason ingrained in the Turkish psyche that the prop "pir-pir" is no good.

I don't understand why? In my opinion especially ATR's are very comfortable, I always thought a feeder/regional airline with ATR's will be very successful but I don't think people like to travel in the in Turkey. Just think of how much business you can steal from the bus companies on secondary p2p markets.

I see from the above that the airport is adding new extensions here and there, but it does seem that IST's ability to rival major regional airport (DXB and DOH particularly) are dependant on greater capacity?

Might it be possible to add a major extension to Sahiba Gokcen, to make it the major airport? Or is the thinking moving towards a green-field site?

Very recently, TK announced plans for a new premium economy class, which sounds very interesting, particularly as TK seems to be aiming to be a leader in this class; might we see TK leading a regional move towards such a product? Also, is it expected that TK will ultimately have a three class operation - an enhanced J Class, Y+ and Y, with F Class going (how successful has this been on the 77W?)

Yes they acknowledged this last summer or so after the 77W orders. 3 class - J, Y+ and Y.

For F-class on its own has been a failure not because of the product, but more because of terrible timing. The 9W planes came with it which forced THY hands. While THY truly wanted to make it work its been a big challange from day one, with almost no advanced product and market development time, plus the massive decline in global premium travel demand just as the product started being offered.

Yes that sadly happened,IST ramp is full of "so called" trained somewhat doesnt care about the rules, has no idea about what they are doing type people.

Its only been less than a month that a man died because of ignorence and you can not believe what I came across last night. While turnıng into a stand I saw a catering truck waiting to service the aircraft in the next stand and blocking my way into the stand.I stopped, tried to signal with my taxi lights, than take off lights than every light I have on the airplane and the stupid marshaller was still calling me to the stand and the truck driver was looking like a bunny stunned with a lights(funny look actually)

I was very angry I asked for the name of the truck driver told him I will file a report about him.Than he understand what is happening and he apologised a thousand times saying he has family. Its really a bad situation I mean my captain side says if I hit the wing will anybody care about my family?Hell NO.
Unfortunatelly I lost to my human side and didnt write the report but I wont be tolerant next time.

I think you should have reported him. I would have. Because you let an imcompetent person get away with such a big mistake. He most probably will do the same thing again and next time the consequences may be much more serious.

Well, I for one really hope they do sell. Anadolujet should not it any way be related to the good and ever improving TK-brand. LCC:s and flag carriers doesn't belong together in my opinion. A bit harsh; but it is like Ryan Air would be the low-cost carrier of BA.

Besides that, I think that TK could either expand by itself in Ankara or give more of its flights to SunExpress. I definately think that Ankara (and Eseboga especially) deserves somehting better than some second hand carrier as Anadolujet.

It's funny you report that as a pilot. As passengers are often transported by bus from the aircraft to the terminal in IST we can "appreciate" how the airport staff drive, bus, baggage trailers, etc. I have seen several "near crashes" and honking goes off like in the city streets! Shocking though... Isn't there special requirements for drivers operating on an airport?

A quick question to our pilot friends in Turkey;
I am curious how it usually works out in terms of which pilots are assigned to which routes;
When you first join TK as a young pilot is it always domestic flights, then move to shorter international flights, then longer international flights on the same type of plane?
Or did you guys have different experiences ?
Thanks.

At least I can say there is one... there should be a few I think. However don't get confused by the accent, in TK specially long-haul I have met some captains which have quite good american English accent, however they are Turkish.

TK has quite a few foreign captains. Only on the B777 they have currently 21 foreign captains. There are other foreign captains on the remaining fleet, but I don't have the number. They have all, as far as I know, a 1 year contract (which can be renewed), but will most probably not be renewed according to rumours.

Pegasus is launching flights from Antalya to Belgrade:

PGT 720
-----6- 15:30 from: 15th of May
-2----- 11:30 from: 15th of June

Since its not bookable on their site I suppose that its only charters (of course).
A few years ago Turkish used to operate twice a week flights from Belgrade to Antalya but have not returned since.
Last summer JU used to operate up to 4 to 5 flights a day. However this year Turkey has gone from 2nd most popular to 3rd most popular destination in Serbia, Greece naturally staying first with over 500 000 Serbian tourists!

Pilotaydin and Wing would be the authority on TK's policy but as far as I know they have different levels of experience for the pilots .. Every airline will have some restrictions for inexperienced pilots , like in mine we have 'green on green' ban. Basically you cannot have a new capt with new FO . There is also designation of 'high min captains' which dictates a higher ceiling and visibility restrictions.

Unfortunately - as far as I know - people hired to work for TK are not of the same level and rumors say that non transparent policy is being used when selecting people for work as staff.
