All-women crew to fly AI to New York (AI 141)
On the occasion of Women's Day on Monday, Air India will make history, deploying an all-women pilot team on the ultra long haul, non-stop flight (AI-141) from Mumbai to New York.

Well at least when they get lost, they wont be too proud to pull over and ask directions
Seriously though, I know in India woman’s rights are respected, but other countries within the same region have an appalling record in this matter. So publicity stunt or not, it’s a great idea.

That being said, its great to see this happening. Who would have thought 15-20 years ago? Women are more than capable of piloting long sectors (would like to see an all women crew for say LAX-SYD, etc). I know PK has had some "all women flights" on their domestic sectors. IIRC, I saw something along the same line with some M.E. carrier.

I like the idea, and as well think it should be normal occurrence. I look forward to the day that an all-woman crew isn't news worthy, but seeing as it still is... were taking a step in the right direction.

It has to be almost 25-30 years when AA had a DC-10 flight from ORD-LAX that was entirely female..flight deck and cabin.
Maybe some over there can firm up the exact date.. and other details.

Good for AI - great gesture for International Women's Day
Once saw a video snippet on 60 Minutes about a father-daughter pilot-FO combination on a SWA flight a couple years ago. Anyone recall that? ( at least I think it was SWA)

AI and IC both have had several all-women crew flights. AFAIR, AI's first was in 2003? IC was the world's first carrier with an all women crew way back in 1985 on BOM-DEL if I remember correctly. Good job women. However, it is sad that these "feats" still make headlines.

Am I completely mistaken that El Al have had all women (flight deck and cabin) crews for IWD before?
As a committed feminist in a long term relationship with a radical feminist I think this is a great consciousness raiser even though I am usually wary of one off headline grabbers!
