Here's one of I'm sure many first pictures of Ethiopian's new DHC-8-400.

Looking good! Will ET keep the bird as clean as it is in the picture?

Will the Q400 replace ET's Fokker 50 fleet?

ET's aircrafts are reasonably clean, among the ones I saw at ADD.

That's the plan. Any idea when this Q400 is going to be delivered?

March 22, is the arrival date. Finally no more crappy domestic planes flying for ET.

The livery looks very sharp on the Q400. Nice to see Ethiopian adding such nice birds to the fleet.

ET tends to keep its birds clean, even domestic only fleet of F50s.

You know, I expected crappy on my last set of domestic flights this past december on the F50 and was pleasantly surprised. See, I fly Air Canada/Jazz crap regionally, and I found ET's ride to be better, visually speaking. Those F50s were still better than any CRJ200 and DHCs I have flown in North America (never flown on a Q400 mind you). Sure, antiquated, but functional. Would you not fly a an impeccable C-47 if they still had them?

Some time in November of 2006, someone had thought of ET's livery on a Q400:

I like the tail colors, but the letters ETHIOPIAN are just too thin - even on their big aircraft.

What I have heard the Fokker 50s of ET are among the last ones being manufactured so I guess they could have been around for a while more.

Anyhow the Dash 8-400 looks great in ET c/s though!

I agree. I would also like to see a larger logo (the lion) and using some darker shades as using yelllow on white just doesn't make sense.

Wow I never knew that someone could foresee the future in this sense. Its amazing how detailed and realistic the plane looks on that pic.

Surprisingly I also agree, I have flown in a CRJ200 on a domestic U.S route and I can say I probably had a better experience on the F50 as well. The only drawback being the ear penetrating noise that the old F50 props make. I think the Q400 is a good choice and seeing a pic from the interior it also looks rather comfortable and spacious. I guess I want to fly in something modern next time I take a domestic trip. I still wish that they chose the ERJ-145 though. I would love to see ET's livery painted on that jet.

Where are they planning on deploying the first one?

Is Q400 ok for African market? Is there room for all the baggage passengers tend to travel with?

From what I hear they will be deployed on domestic flights and regional flights up to 1,000KM from ADD so I assume JIB JUB SAH may see them

As for baggage I am sure that they have more space than the current F50 fleet!

Does anyone have any idea of the tentative schedule of the rest of the fleet? Can wait to fly one of these on the ADD-AMH route (Arba Minch)

The Q4 will be far more comfortable and at their intended use range..almost as fast as the ERJ145. Trust me I fly both all the time and give me the Q!

What kind of range does the Q400 have? Could ET operate it longer than 1000km if it wanted to?

Sharp looking bird in these colours, nice, shame they don't route via the UK on delivery.

Every bit as modern and more efficient than todays generation of jets of similar capacity, great shot.
