Virgin America To Canada?

Yesterday Melanie Nayer asked Virgin America CEO David Cush what his plans for Canada were on my behalf. (http://twitter.com/chic_travel/status/10242078834) He replied "We certainly plan on expanding to Canada at some point (maybe sooner rather than later) and are very excited about it."

Let the speculation begin! I would imagine that YVR and YYZ are of interest but is there any way to gauge what the opener would be?

My bet would be YVR/YYZ-SFO/LAX.

pipe dream: YYZ-FLL

Considering VX has California bases, the YVR market is the bigger one based on demand from here.

However at the end of the day, Canada would be years off, as VX still has several key US markets to attack first, and continue to bulk up in its existing city-pairs also.

Also one never knows, a few years down the road maybe Virgin will consider having a Canadian airline themselves. I recall there were some internal studies on such a project already a few years back.

Yea, you'd have to think west coast to YYZ and YVR would be the first ones. Maybe YYC and YUL in the longer term?

I'd love to see a JFK-YUL but I don't that will happen anytime soon.

Most likely SFO-YVR / YYZ

Toronto and Vacouver would be the most logical for starters. But I agree; I think there are other US markets that should see service first.

Apparently Cush stated in another article that new routes and planes will be announced this month.

Mr. Cush likes to make statements like the one in the OP -- and often. So far, we haven't seen a lot of action behind most of those words...

I thought ORD was supposed to be starting sometime in May or June. It's now approaching mid-March and what have we actually heard from VX this year? There ya go.

But let the specuation continue... let's see, it's about Canada this time isn't it?
