According to Taiwanese newspaper, China Airlines became the 2nd Taiwanese airlines to get permission to fly over Russia Airspace after EVA Air.

As a result, effective August, all China Airlines flight to Frankfurt will become a non-stop flight, instead of making a stop in Abu Dhabi.

China Airlines is expecting to launch non-stop Taipei-Moscow flight this fall.

What equipment are they going to use on the route? I'd guess A340-300 or MD11.

Ah MD11's will leave the fleet by years end so I guess A343 or maybe B744. A343 would be my pick though.

So what are other airlines doing? Still via BKK/HKG?? (SR/KL/BA)

Why don't BA do LHR/TPE non-stop?? (Since BR's getting big bucks from the BKK/LHR sector... and woud not give this up...)

I'm speculating but...

possibly the issue that British Asia is the division of British Airways that flies from HKG-TPE. I don't know what the air agreements are between TPE and LHR, but especially BA being the flag carrier, they'd have to launch an all new airline basically to satisfy the PRChina.

Do correct me if I'm wrong.

I´m looking forward to see their new A340 here at FRA soon. At the moment they use a MD-11 to FRA.

I think MD-11 will also be employed on this route for the first few flights.
