I guess Manchester is now going to be a given with other UK destinations to follow suite with A380!

Well we'll know soon enough what they'll do for MAN. BHX may become a candidate for A380 in 3 or so years time. NCL would probably only got a daily 77W maximum over the next 5 years, before they add a 2nd service. Scotland will probably gain a 2nd service in the next couple of years, probably at GLA as I don't believe they'll want a lunchtime sercvice to GLA and an evening service to EDI. Whether the current service wuill stay as a 77W is debatable when that happens. As for LGW, i'm sure they must have plans for A380s within the next 3 years.

Yesterday EK when announcing an expansion of their call centre near MAN did say no decision has been made about A380s for MAN but it was still under consideration. The problem for them is that they will need to bump up available capacity as both flights currently appear to be quite full (January appears to have been a minimum 88% load factor) but the A380s they have in their fleet are not particularly suited for operation at MAN. Flyertalk has EK17 being A380 and EK 19 being 77W LD so they'd be missing out on a bit of volume both in terms of cargo and passenger which may lead to either a freighter service being added or a 3rd passenger servce.

In terms of MAN's readiness for regular A380 ops, I don't believe that they are at the moment but given the 1st provisional planned date for A380s is 1st September, they still have a bit of time to complete whatever needs doing.

Just in relation to EK,would they consider a sevice from BFS in the future?,thereby taping into the Irish market as well as the northern Irish market. EY have recently increased their service from DUB,maybe this would put EK of the idea.

This has been on/off since last Autumn. 2nd 380 was meant to be on the EK3/4 run from early Jan but was postponed to allow maiden expansion into other cities (Seoul and Paris in particular)

Had the pleasure of EK001 earlier this year and the 380 is a mighty beast and leaves all other current widebodies standing in terms of passenger comfort

I wonder at what point LGW will get the 380?

Only the slow A380 delivery rate delayed this introduction. Do all of the LHR flights have enough demand to up-gauge? I've been under the impression there is at least one time slot that wouldn't be popular enough (today). But perhaps all would fill the big Airbus.

EK is ready for a 2-class A380. I think they could select a configuration that would work both regional and to European destinations that have low premium (24 to 42 J) and a HUGE Y lift.

Hopefully - as mentioned in some other posts - the loads are pretty healthy on the GLA route I hear and the fares are always competitive. I think that in 3-4 years if another Gulf (or Turkish) airline has not taken the initiative to expand in EDI - then Ek might have enough demand to operate a service out of there as well as GLA. We'll see...

Im more than happy to be corrected, but I am sure I have read in previous threads that EK would be more likely to add a third daily service to MAN, before they considered upgrading any of the aircraft on this route to an A380...

If an A380 operated to MAN would they not stuggle to fill the first class cabin, of does EK operate the A380 with different configs that could resolve this issue?

Could someone please remind me of what the current frequencies are from UK airports and what aircrafts are being used...

I am always so surprised at the frequencies and markets EK manages to attract from the UK... Especially when you consider airlines like QR and EY only operate a single rotation from MAN with an A330-200 and have not really seen any increase in capacity from them even though the routes are now quite established!

I have seen it reported that a hefty number of F class passengers from the MAN catchment area use the LHR service, but with 489, 517 and 644 seat varieties (the latter being 2 class) of A380, EK do have a degree of flexibility as to what they want to operate into MAN

As for frequencies and types, believe its' the following:

LHR = 5 daily (1 x A380, 4 x 777, going to 2 A380 & 3 x 777)
LGW = 3 daily (3 x 777?)
All the above I imagine are LD configuration.

MAN = 2 daily 77W
BHX = 2 daily 77W
GLA = daily 77W
NCL = daily A330

All these are HD configuation (even though you'll find the odd LD aircraft operating on a service)
