I am heading over to VCV on Friday to visit friends in the area. I wanted to catch a glimpse of the 787 and/or 747-8F testing. When exactly do they do their test flights?

Also, in VCV, is there any way to get close to the planes in storage?

Me too. Anyone know when both planes are sure to be there? Would love to go on Sunday...

I can tell you that the 748 is not in VCV but one 787, N787EX, is and it usually runs in the pattern of VCV doing touch and go's from about 9AM to about 2PM at least that is as long as it is on our radar. Yesterday though they did take it out to over the ocean for about 2 hours or so and returned about 4PM. It's really a nice plane and it's still interesting to hear, at work, traffic called out say "Heavy Boeing 787", still kind of weird but really cool. I wish there was some way to be able to take a tour of it while it's here in VCV though.

Thanks. The 748 is due there soon. Hopefully someone knows when, and how long the 787 is expected to stay. I have to get my arse in gear!

Also, best place to view? Is it on the hillside to the South with binoculars, or upclose somewhere? I've been to VCV before, but a long time ago.

Ok from what I have been told the 748 is due here some time next month. This current 787 is supposed to be here for about a week or two more. Although in our local newspaper it says that we are supposed to have 787 testing for about a total of 9 months.

There's a hill on the north side near runway 21 and just an empty field on the southside. The majority of stored aircraft are on the north side. If you drive up highway 395 you can see the lot pretty good. There is a road that runs inbetween the airport and 395 which the name escapes me now but its on the west side of the airport and runs along side of the UA 737's.

I'm pretty sure ZA002 will be down there for at least the remainder of March.

I remember that road. Best location for viewing the operations would probably be the hillside though, right? get a nice view of the touch and go testing?

Highway 395 would be good for that. The hillside is pretty much off limits with the powerplant there and the 2 huge hangers that Leading Edge uses for painting aircraft. A decent spot would be near where it parks over between the Victorville Aerospace hanger and the main City of Victorville airport operations office, SCLA.
