On Friday, March 19, 2010 (yesterday), Air Europa launched its new nonstop flights between Madrid and Miami. Flights UX 097/098 will operate on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. I was fortunate enough to be present for the TFN-MIA inaugural last June, so hopefully another A.netter was there yesterday to document the return of the white A330.

Excuse my ignorance but is this MAD-MIA really direct and comes in addition to the MAD-TFN-MIA?
I ask because UX started to market the MIA flight in France but it wasn't clear to me if they made a stop on the way to MIA

No it is non stop four times a week inicially with plans to upgrade the frequency later. It is scheduled to operate direct 1x weekly MIA-TFN-MAD. TFN is on hiatus until the summer where rumor is it will remain yearly and if numbers pick up will go 2x next season. Nothing is set in stone as Air Europa is still playing with schedules. Personally I think admini wants to get a feel for the market first, which is not a bad idea.
Quoting EddieDude (Reply 3): Will DL place its code on these flights?
I believe they were supposed to on MAD but not on TFN as it is VFR 1x weekly. Don't know f that is still happening though.

These are great news. I was expecting this flight for a while. I made the flight to TFN back in December an it was a nice experience. Besides, traveling in J the prices are more reasonable in UX than those in AA or IB (my other two non stop options).

This is good news for AA/IB in regards to the claims that oneworld's ATI will hurt competition; now MIA-MAD should not be an issue for Branson and his fans!!! :O Too bad AA pulled the 777 on the route to give it to DFW-MAD.

Believe it or not, I think this is a reason why AA/IB won't mess with the flight and fight it off. It is in 1W's best interest that this flight succeeds at the beginning. Then, once ATI/JV is approved, AA will have a little more flexibilty to compete more with ST. Yes, it is a competitor in a decent market but better to let this one go at first. The route really can support all three players though like PAR/LON.

As of now, the DL code isn't showing up on the airport website. Incidentally, flights UX 097/098 have been cancelled today.

I made a quick search. In December I paid US$1,400 for MIA-TFN-MIA in J class. Now the search says US$2,450 not the US$3,600 on IB or AA but still much more expensive than before... too bad...!
