There hasn't been much growth from US Airways Express in CLT in recent years, so it is nice to see this new route to BTR beginning June 24 (3x daily). I hadn't realized it had been seven years since they last served the route, though--I had assumed they might have done so following Katrina in 2005.

That's not totally true. We've seen CLT-YOW, CLT-MLB, CLT-EYW, CLT-DAB, CLT-VPS and CLT-GPT all get added (or about to be added) over the past few years. Not quite to AA's level of RJ additions, but still CLT continues to slowly pick up a lot of secondary markets.
It's good news for BTR which has lost so much of its traffic...mostly bleeding to MSY. This won't stop most of that bleeding, but it can't hurt.

True, but who cares? US mainline has grown by leaps and bounds (I still can't believe there are now daily flights to HNL and GIG), and will continue to do so with FCO, PVR, and SJD coming soon. And, as FlyPNS1 stated, quite a few secondary Floridian cities have been added/resumed by US Airways Express lately.

That is surprising, but the fact of the matter was that BTR quickly reverted back to the level of airline service it traditionally had: RJs to ATL (DL), MEM (NW), DFW (AA), and IAH (CO). CLT is the only other major southern hub that the airport doesn't have service to. Seems to me like even service to ORD (the last Katrina addition to be cut) and DCA (capital-to-capital service) could be a stretch!

This service should do well. I'm not sure what the yields were, but the loads were solid before they axed the route seven years ago

Quoting USAirALB (Reply 5): And I predict we will be seeing MAD announced as seasonal service for summer 2011 this fall.
That and DUB as a 757 are likely to be announced for next year. US still may add some more express routes from CLT this year.

Quoting USAirALB (Reply 5): HNL will do fine, its not that hard of a route. GIG, Im not so sure
Re: HNL, I wouldn't be so sure of that; loads have been abysmal. Combine that with the fact that it's a long-haul leisure route and you are looking at a lot of red ink. GIG did well through the end of February; March has been more of a challenge, though that's not to be unexpected as you enter the low/shoulder season.
Quoting silentbob (Reply 6): There isn't much room for growth in the E terminal, it's already a mess
It is quite packed as you mention, though they just announced a 120ft expansion to the concourse which will supposedly be completed within a year.
