I don't know about the A340-300M, but the A340-300E can make it. JFK-BAH is 5743 nautical miles, or 6608 statue miles, and the range of the A340-300E is 7300 nautical miles, or 8400 miles.

Where are these figures from? I presume that they are not from an airport analysis which reflects summer temperatures in either JFK or BAH?

I thought that Gulf Air tried it, but found that they had to make unscheduled stops in Larnaca etc because of range restrictions during certain months of the year.

as far as I know it can easily be done. Especialy with the X version. But most likely the others could do it to.

Yes, an A340-300 can travel from BAH-JFK non-stop. the reason it started scheduling stops at Larnaca is to try to get more passengers on the aircraft. Kuwait airways will start non-stop services from KWI-JFK in June with an A340-300. this will bring the total number of flights a week to JFK to 4.
hope this helps
