I know this is something Vail Resorts has been trying for a while, and it finally got AA on board. American Airlines will operate summer service for the first time between Eagle County and Miami between June 12th and August 28th.

AA 2387 MIA 1055-1315 EGE 752 Sa
AA 2398 EGE 1415-1510 DEN 1605-2200 MIA 752 Sa

Return flight with a stop in Denver due to weight restriction/summer heat.

During the summer months, Eagle County otherwise only has flights to Dallas (AA) and Denver (UA).

AA's MIA-EGE service operates 4w during the winter months, Friday through Monday.

Any known revenue guarantees on that route?

A 55 minute stop on the return? Why so long? That pretty much defeats the purpose of having a "nonstop" flight?

Vail Resorts keeps a revenue guarantee bank, but on MIA-EGE at least, AA has not had to dip into it for years. The flight does gangbusters.

What are the alternatives? You can double connect on United Airlines since UA does not fly MIA-DEN between June and October, or you can take AA via Dallas.

I'm not saying that there are "alternatives" but I'm just wondering why the stop is for such a long period of time. Is it because it takes that long to fuel the plane?

I have no idea. Perhaps to cushion for delays, or to also allow time for local DEN traffic to get on board, since AA is selling DEN-MIA seats.

Great news. I think it will still be successful. South Floridians love to get out of town in the summer as well.

my first conclusion.

All makes sense I guess. Anyhow, EGE ends up being the big winner.

So it looks like EGE will have its usual DEN and DFW flights back this summer, no ORD, but MIA?!? How strange. During the winter, I know the MIA flight fills up with all the Latin Americans coming to the world-famous ski resorts of Vail, Beaver Creek, and Aspen. But who on earth would take this flight during the summer? Vail isn't a big summertime destination (yet) and it shouldn't be too hard to route those who do want to go for the whitewater rafting, golfing, etc. through DFW. I would have thought AA would have tried ORD (especially since UA doesn't look to be bringing it back) or even LGA/JFK (New York is a strong winter market and big city with lots of folks looking to escape the heat) before MIA. I also don't see the fall DFW flights, either...

Flying in the middle seat of coach is much better than not flying at all!

With the stop in DEN will AA allow routing such as EGE-DEN-ORD or hopefully EGE-DEN-LAX?

Miamians are probably second to New Yorkers in second home ownership in Eagle County. South Florida is Vail's second largest O&D market.

Interesting statistic Mark. As a South Floridian, I would have never realized that it was so big on the O&D front. Makes one wonder why it was never tried earlier or with more frequency.

Yes Beaver Creek, Vail, and Aspen all get plenty of Summer visitors. There is a certain crowd that comes here summer only. Beautiful weather its rarely super hot so its nice to play golf, hang by the pool w sunscreen, hike, fish, or just sit on the deck and relax. Aspen and BC have pretty well established summer visitors more than Vail. Some who come just for this time of year and don't visit in the winter. The summer is very inexpensive compared to winter and does not get the high fares that winter demands.

Most importantly the drive from DEN is beautiful and a piece of cake in the summer. The real attraction to EGE of high airfares is much less there in the summer. This is the real reason why so many services operate summer only and less mainline. The summer season has a pretty decent amount of visitors but the easy drive to DIA kills the main advantage of EGE for most and AA and UA fill the demand for the people who are willing to pay the extra $. EGE tends to be pricey any season compared to DEN, a huge markup
