The Gulf Dispute: Airshow Shut Off Over Iran?

More than four weeks ago Iran has threatened to ban airlines from Iranian airspace if they do not refer to the waterway between Iran and the Arabian peninsula as the Persian Gulf.

I flew Oman Air between Munich and Muscat shortly after the reports had been published and, interestingly, the airshow disappeared while we were cruising over Iran. I'm not sure whether there was a malfunction or whether it was shut off on purpose. However, neither the term "Persian Gulf" nor the term "Arabian Gulf" were used anyway- at least I didn't notice one of them.

The Next 5* Carrier? MUC-MCT-DXB, Oman Air A330

Has anyone noticed anything similar? Have there been any new developments in the last few weeks?

I really enjoyed your report on Oman Air - well done; I noticed the issue about the Gulf and it seemed a wise choice on Oman Air's part just not to call it anything; after all, people flying over that area of water will know what it is and have their own name for it (be it the Persian Gulf, Arabian Gulf or whatever); I thought they could agree to call it the Islamic Gulf, but I guess that's a political decision and not one the airlines can take themselves.

Since all carriers in that region rely on Iran for traffic and overflights, the line of least resistance is the wisest path.
