Does anyone have any idea who and when A380s are to start arriving at IAD? Both my jobs are directly under the HYPER2 arrival path for approaching heavies and they pass over at around 5,000 feet. Would love to know when the Whalebus is coming in, and more specifically, go see the first arrival into IAD (presuming I get the day off!)
Cheers,
-Jeff

I can't think of any airline that's likely to fly 380s to IAD in the near term; LH and AF are the only IAD visitors to have 380s in the near term (AF now and LH, in a few month), but unfortunately neither has listed IAD among the airports it intends to serve with the new type, nor has BA.
I'm sure that A380s will be seen at IAD some day, but it won't happen for a good few years unfortunately.

AF has clearly said IAD was a very likely destination for their superjumbo. At the moment it's not planned before 2011. If you do a search in the search forum, there are several threads in which this was discussed

IAD was planned as an A380 destination by Air France for this summer 2010.
Unfortunately, the addional delay in the deliveries "pushed" the reception of the 4th aircraft (F-HPJD) from June to Sept/Oct, so Air France relaunched a 3rd Daily frequency on CDG-IAD-CDG instead.
IAD is now a potential destination of AF A380 after the delivery of the 5th aircraft, in spring 2011.
Other destinations mentionned by AF's CEO P-H Gourgeon (during the inaugural flight to JNB last Feb.) are LAX, MEX, PEK, PVG.

That's too bad... I did a search and saw the Spring 2010 stuff, but no confirmation of it. LH also has a fairly big presence at IAD, so I wonder if they'll ever bring one there? Who knows. Hopefully I'll get to see one at CDG when I'm over there this spring!
