If that is true, then it is a shocking waste of money. How I wish governments would stop meddling with their state run airlines!!!

I like the old logo so if they bring it back it will be good.

Here is a video of the new logo and new interiors.

Am I the only one who actually prefers the old livery? The new one seems fashionable but totally forgettable. Fingers crossed that this is not the April fools joke.
Admittedly, if this is true, they had an expensive yet futile exercise. The heads should roll.

Typical of some 3rd world governments finding a way to meddle in the running of an airline that is attempting to go forward.

How can they revert back to the old logo? Whether one likes the logo or not, a decision was made to adopt a new one, in order to take the airline forward into the future. Use some common sense.

Good luck to them ever wanting to go forward and change their image to the outside world.

Yes, bad news for all concerned (except for those who already have photos of acft with the new livery!); this is exactly the problem that has plagued the airline for a long time and with this decision, it's clear that they have no intention of changing their ways; how long will it be before the 777s are being repossessed or they're forced to cancel o/s orders. The Bangladeshi govt needs to look at the big picture.

The last few seconds of that video show a 737 head-on, with green winglets.

Personally I don't like either livery, the font is wrong, the design is a little too 'edgy', but the newer version at least highlights its aspirations. What suirprises me is the small total fleet- and with painting a few aircraft this effectively means a large percentage of its fleet would have the new livery, this would be an achievement for an airline like BA e.t.c.

Good luck to BG- an airline who's fate lies with the Bangladeshi government- that sums it up I think, 2 hopes, bob and no.

I wonder if an airline like EK will do an UL for BG, this would probably require reform in Bangladesh on ownerships etc so maybe it is a no go.

The decision to go back to the "old" logo is not only due to tradition or recognition. The "Balaka" or "bird" logo was custom designed reflecting the genesis of the airline immediately after the end of the Liberation War in 1971, and it carries a lot of significance that all Bangladeshi residing abroad should be aware off. It is not probably apparent to many of the Generation-Y or Generation-Z and non-resident Bangladeshi diaspora.

The colors of Biman, Bangladesh Airlines, have changed somewhat over the years, but the key issue is that Balaka symbol has remained.

From: Wikipedia for Biman

Quote:

In modern Bengali, the word বিমান biman refers to "aeroplane", originating from the Sanskrit word vimāna, a name given to a flying machine mentioned in ancient Vedic literature. The logo, painted on the tail, is a stylised white stork (বলাকা bôlaka) inside a red circle. The initial livery was a dark blue line extending across the aircraft along the windows and covering the tail section. This was replaced in the 1980s by dark green and red lines, matching the colours of the Bangladesh flag, and has remained so for over two decades. The bôlaka has also given its name to the Biman headquarters, the Balaka Bhaban (বলাকা ভবন bôlaka bhôban, Stork Building),[11][12][13] and a landmark sculpture in Dhaka depicting storks is in front of Biman's former headquarters.[14]

I understand the reasoning behind the shift back to the old color/colour scheme, which I have outlined above. I know from personal experience in a particular field, dealing with similar situation, that is as easy as saying "Because, I said so..", regardless of the real work involved in evaluating choices..

For example, with regard to Biman's own 2009 Press Release

Look at how they are actually congratulating themselves that the conversion of Biman has been "effective... optimum... well though-out", etc.

Quote:
After the conversion of Biman into a public limited company, Biman initiated and
implemented effective fleet and route expansion strategies to accelerate the process of
growth, effective strategy to bring positive changes in the work-process and workenvironment,
optimum utilization of manpower and resources and a well thought-out
plan to implement the re-branding initiatives for the present and the future. A successful
Hajj operation, E-ticketing implementation, up gradation of the departure control
system, adding new ground handling equipment to provide better ground handling
services, entering into IP/IP-VPN, MOU with Airlogica (Data Mining Technology), BSP,
CASS, and a successful IOSA certification are some of the significant milestones
achieved.

Would be great to see other airlines return to their older liveries too. The white fuselage & painted tail look is so cheap and boring looking.

That new livery was not a winner. Who designed it?

It's good that Biman is going to change it though I hope they will imrpove the old livery to modern standards. A document was published that shows a much nicer and more 'Bangladeshy' livery upgrade, created and proposed in 2006 by the Dutch company Lila Design. Biman might not have noticed the beauty of this scheme design that time, hopefully they'll look at it again...

Lila Design is highly underrated and they've created some truly stunning work. VG Airlines stands out in my mind as a truly amazing livery that unfortunately lived a very short life. I would love to see them get more recognition through successful bids.

I always found their work a bit samey. And anyway, hasn't every single airline they dsigned a livery for now disappeared?

This whole situation is quite bizarre. For all the problems Bangladesh has, and it's government concerns itself with the colours on an aeroplane? Sigh. Maybe it is political - the new government not wanting to be associated with decisions of the interim government. Still, petty.

That's an awfully general statement. A few are not around, like VG and United Arabian Airlines, but Norlinor and Shaheen still are. They also submitted proposals to companies like Air Mauritius but didn't win. In fact, most of their work is design proposals, and private designs that DO get picked up. Their work has little to do with the disappearance of the airlines. And if you want to, you can find plenty of diversity and attention to focused themes and details within each design. Or you can also just say "they all look the same" and write them off.
