Well, you saw the topic. What generally constitutes the ATC definition of a heavy?

I used to think that size was the only issue, then I heard someone here say that the 757 series is classified as a 'heavy' in ATC procedure.

I am assuming that it is the intensity and length of the wake turbulence produced by the a/c that classifies it as a heavy or otherwise.

MGTOW of greater than 255,000 pounds. The 757 isnt a heavy but produces the wake turbulence like one, so they have special spacing regulations just for it.
