How Old Is United's Youngest 747?

I have been on a UA 747 at least a dozen times over the last year and with the new interiors, it is almost impossible to guess an airplanes age. All details inside seem to match those of a 777. So, when did UA take delivery of a 747 last and did they upgrade the ceiling and bins on the older ones?

You can check the history here,

she gets around on many different routes.

I just was on it SFO-SYD in March and I think it goes there pretty often .... So, I'd say Sydney/Melbourne/Narita would be my guess as to where to find it.

UA, like most airlines, rotates birds throughout the system wherever they're needed. You can find this one on any 747 route.

They didn't upgrade the interior to 777 (Boeing Signature) standard during the cabin renovation, but I'm sure they either replaced the sidewalls/bins or thoroughly cleaned them.

Looks like it's working its way back from Seoul through SFO today, so I imagine it probably gets to Seoul somewhat frequently too.

She is so beautiful it brings a tear to my eye! I love UA's new livery and it looks especially good in this shot. Sitting in 1A or 1K in United First is my "happy place".
I'm off to Sydney next month and can't wait. It also seems like India is on my schedule too- I need to find a way to do Mumbai on UA. What's best? UA to SIN then Singapore to Mumbai? I originate in NYC.
As per seabosdca, there are 747's with the 777 contour ceilings/overheads like the 767? I have never seen that. Are there shots of them?

How can someone not love everything about United after looking at this picture! I was a huge fan of the battleship livery but when I see the big birds in the new blue and white it is just very refreshing......

Does this mean that UA will think about ordering the 747-8I as their 744's are starting to age???

They might think about it but it seems unlikely now that they have ordered 787s and A350s for delivery later this decade which are slated to replace the 744 and 763 fleets.

I remember seeing N128UA at AKL a few times in the early 2000s, how time flies.

I do love everything about United. I find the new C and F far, far, far better than any other USA airline. The interiors are modern and pleasing and as you approach the ac from the jet bridge you smell the fresh signiature UA fragrance. We just need to see 747-8i in the order book!

Wouldn't SQ's all J class A340-500 EWR-SIN with a connection to BOM be faster? You must be one of the very few who find UA service better than SQ..

I'd say, if you're a milage plus memeber... the best way to get from New York city to India, provided you don't mind making a stop is going to be on Emirates.

Failing that of course I believe CO flies its 777s nonstop?
I know back in the 1990s UA used to have a round the world flight that included india but i think that's been dead for about a decade now. If you want to stick strict to UA you're gonna need to head to tokyo first and then switch to ANA. Have thai brought back their JFK-BKK flight yet (they're suppose t do it again since its not worth selling a345s to anybody)? This would also be a fast option.

i hate the new livery, i am always happy when i get on a united grey aircraft (whenever i fly united), the new one looks like it was desinged in europe for a european airline. i wish our airlines would stop change to a eurowhite scheam it is just bland and unclassy unless on LH or maybe AF.

I'd hardly call it "Eurowhite". That's when the majority of the fuselage is white (over 80/90%?) This was more a return to the old style white-top and has less fuselage white than the pre-grey orange & white scheme. I find the new UA scheme much cleaner, smarter and professional looking, IMHO, the grey was down-right ugly. Even straight out of the hangar, it made the aircraft look like it needed a good clean and didn't do UA any favours.

Hi !

If you want to fly UA the most of the way, fly UA via IAD and DXB/KWI to BOM. The 777 would probably have to old seats though.....If you go via SIN or BKK, you'd get the new seats on the 744.

I don't think UA's service better than SQ (I would be insane then) but I to make GS for next year, then I can fly SQ!

The new livery was designed by Pentagram, considered by most design experts to be the best design firm in the world, but someone in their London office did the interiors. I agree eurowhite is tired and boring now. But to me ( and i work fo Landor, another famous design agency) the style of UA's new graphics' like the super tulip in a graduated tone, with the old UA stripes and bright blue belly ( which comes as high as the center of the nose) is quite American in it's look and captures the essence of what United always stood for: friendly, but with more style and statue than the Saul Bass version . It's all subjective. While the grey was unique, I found it too serious and drab for me.
