I guess the folks over at Family Airlines, the proposed cattle car 747 start up in Las Vegas liked the movie so much, they filed with to amend their corporate name to Avatar Airlines Inc.

It's a good thing "Kick Ass" didn't do as well at the Box Office as hoped...

You can put lipstick on a pig, and it's still a pig.

It'll never fly. I think it's just an ongoing scam to dupe investors out of their money.

Maybe they'll now get away from those F/A's dressed as clowns shoving strawberry patch dolls in your face. Instead you'll have F/A's dressed as Avatar demons chasing you back to your seat!

So he never went to jail, right?

from wikipedia...
In March 1993 the Federal Aviation Administration announces that it would no longer process Family Airlines's application to begin service.[1] In April 1993, after the United States Department of Transportation reviewed lawsuits and judgments against founder Barry Michaels, the agency asked Michaels to relinquish control of the proposed airline.[9] On April 27 Michaels agreed to relinquish control of the airline.[10] On June 24, 1996, the Securities and Exchange Commission filed a suit against Barry Michaels and his wife, Holly S. Michaels, for fraudulently offering unregistered stock for the airline. A federal judge in California ordered Barry and Holly Michaels to return $363,306 to the investors and pay $181,000 per person in civil penalties.[3][4][11],/i>

Oof, that was beyond painful to watch. I love how that promotional video has all the stock footage from the 1980s/90s. You can't get more absurd than that.

Cheers!

And this tripe? Taking stock footage from 1985 or something? I believe I saw footage using a VS clip of inflight service in the "promotion" of this fantasy. What a load of rubbish

I wanted to apply for the flight crew posting, but it's a $50 application fee and I don't have that kind of money

LOL!

I have this image in my brain of the inside of his house looking like Buffalo Bill's house from Silence of the Lambs, and the narrator of that video is a beautiful woman held captive and tortured by him for his sick and obsessive fantasy of starting this so-called "Family Airlines."

Where's Jodie Foster when you need her?

Cheers!

Actually, this is the deal of the century. If you can get 15 investors each with $50,000, every one of you can own half the airline.

I wonder if the founder ever saw the play "The Producers".

This guy is out to do it again. He claims to be clean, and learned from his mistakes. However, how do you trust someone who has already scammed many people out of their life savings?

Oh yes he did, he did Federal Prison time.

Quoting jetjack74 (Reply 10):

That is a harsh accusation. However, he is a convicted criminal, and has bilked many for their money. To me, he should not be allowed to run for congress, or be allowed to own a darned thing. I bet he never paid anyone back for what he did. If anything, he did time, and got out free. I bet some of his prior investors are just flipping out knowing he is back to the same games.

He will do it again, history has a way of repeating itself.

Copied and pasted from him,,, himself!!

Meet Barry Michaels

I believe in being honest and often preach; "if you tell the truth, you'll never forget what you said" and believe me I’ve learned this lesson the hard way. Being honest may sound trite in today’s world but I think it is essential, especially in government to earn the peoples’ trust and equally important is the willingness to take responsibility for one’s actions.

I have what most would consider a “checkered past” and have paid the price several times over. I am a convicted white-collar offender (ex-felon) who spent fifteen months of a twenty-one month sentence at the minimum security Nellis Federal Prison Camp in North Las Vegas for security and tax violations that occurred in 1992.

Being convicted does not necessarily mean being guilty but long ago I decided I couldn’t win this battle so I “productively” served my time. Looking back I can honestly say; "I believe this sentence was payback time for prior business practices that were not always above board." I believe some were due in part to my lack of knowledge of the law. This is a part of my life that I'm not proud of, but its part of my past which I've learned a very costly lesson from. To prevent others from making the same mistake, once elected I intend to propose a mandate requiring every public school student to take and pass basic classes in law and government prior to high school graduation.

During my stay at Nellis I became a constant visitor to their law library where I began to help other inmates with their legal issues and soon realized the system wasn't perfect. As I did my research I listened to other inmates who would constantly complain and I would often say; "if you don't like the law change it, but it's the law". It was then that I realized I had a special love for the law that I inherited when I began to read Supreme Court case opinions.

If he plans to run for Congress when would he have the time to run the airline?

You can run, but who says you'll get elected? He should be ashamed of himself....

How does one plan on starting an airline without a designated Director of Flight Operations? Shouldn't that be one of the first positions you fill to assess for viability?

Also, if I recall correctly from the movie, Avatars are close to 10 ft tall. 539 on the lower deck of a 747? That sounds like the beginning of some leg room issues.  Silly

Never will get it either. As far as I am concerned, we don't need anymore criminals in congress. His airline idea is as bad as his time served.

These guys actually watched the movie, and decided to go with Avatar? Maybe I should send them a copy of Con Air? It would be more fitting. Perhaps we can watch Barry hop on a specially painted Justice Flight instead. That is where this venture is going to land him again.

There was a flogging held at Cranky Flyer of one of their "representatives". It was a polite flogging, but whippings were handed out.

Is there actually enough room on the upper deck of a 744 for 42 seats, let alone "office class" which, presumably bigger? This guy is a complete but job!
