Its been almost two years since the small, Minnesota based charter carrier Champion Air ceased operations due to high fuel prices and losing business. I'm not sure when the Champion Air titles were removed from their hangar at MSP or what the hangar will be used for, but it seemed like the name was on there a long time after the shut down. I was wondering if anyone knew where Champion Air's 727s are? Have some of them been scrapped? It would be great if someone also had pictures of them.

It ain't no normal MD80 its a Super 80!

About 10 have been scrapped and about 6 are in storage and not likely tor return to service....The stored a/c are parked all over the country in places like San Bernadino, Ardmore, Jacksonville and Opa Locka. Sadly the demise of Champion Air spelled the death knell for many of these tri-holers.

Didn't a few of them end up with the Justice Dept (Con-Air)?

I know they like the rear-stair planes because it makes loading/unloading the prisoners easier ...

Would be sad if the whole fleet ended up getting beer-canned ...

JPATS seems to prefer the MD-8x line these days.

I'd say the name was removed from the hangar within the last 6 months or so. It appears that Mesaba Airlines is now using the hangar for their operation.

I'll see if I can get a picture and post it later.

A picture of the small Mesaba sign on a wood post, near the road.
(notice the shadow on the white part of the building where it once said Champion Air)

A close up of the sign...

Champion Air signage continues at DFW! Odd they haven't taken it off the road side signs, etc. I guess it makes them seem like they have more service that way...

Quoting DBCooper (Reply 7):

They also have ATA signs on the Terminal E ramp.

Wonder if there are any Braniff signs still over there too...

I'd rather shoot BAD_MOTIVE

At the moment, there seems to be a Champion Air 727-200 at the Atlantic FBO hangar at KBUR. I've seen it on my way to work every day for the last several weeks.
