Are any avid AZ fans aware of plans to reconfig existing Magnifica seats on the 777? Am flying late June and was wondering if there were plans, between now and then to reconfig the birds.

Hey!
The first new Magnifica Product will be unveiled in late June with the introduction of the A330 (which is now in the engine/systems hangar at Toulouse already painted)
The 777s should begin the retrofit once the A330s are operative. I believe this will begin by January 2011 (hard guess).
So regarding to your flight, I don't think you'll be flying the new Magnifica unless you book yourself on MXP-NRT starting June, or MXP-MIA-MXP / MXP-JFK-MXP in August!
Hope it helps!

797 thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, I'll be flying late June FCO-JFK in so I guess it will be the Recaro recliners.
Has the soft product improved at all? IUsually fly DL J across the pond.

As far as I know, the new dining service was introduced a couple months ago. Depending on the season, they change their wine lists and food choices. So yes, you will experience the new catering service they have. If I'm not mistaken, you will enjoy Tuscan area catering, which IMHO is one of the best you can have!
On the bright side, you'll do the 777 which has better seats than the 767 as of right now! I'd encourage you to write a Trip Report, but maybe that's too much to ask

Quoting 797 (Reply 6): Those A330s, I believe, will be painted into AZ colors (and fitted with the new Magnifica Class) once the new ones arrive.
You're correct. At least when I flew, was still AirOne paint (and parts of uniforms oddly). I think Flyertalk has an AZ page with updates on Magnifica, but like AZ, a bit hard to decipher at times.

Quoting sammyk (Reply 7): Do you know if the A330 will eventually serve Newark?
Probably.
As of right now, the two new A330s will be based in MXP. From there, they'll serve NRT, MIA, and JFK.
Later on, as the remaining 8 A330s arrive, they will substitute the 6 763s they have and maybe so, send them to EWR from FCO.
The long-haul fleet will then be composed of 10 772s, 12 A332s, and by 2014 (allegedly) 10 A350s.

Yes. This has been an issue over with the AZ frequent flyers, as they see everything as AirOne, but in realty AZ is operating the flight.
It's been discussed whether a complete merger will occur, and it was even discarded at the beginning of this alliance. However, last week I heard that some of the A320s in AP's fleet will be painted into AZ colors, and all the new A320s arriving from TLS are wearing AZ colors as well... Seems like they finally decided to bring them both together and strengthen as a single carrier.
AZ is doing extremely good. As a matter of fact, they were the most punctual airline in Europe for the first quarter of 2010. No delays! In addition, they're making profit, which is something that they never saw for 30+ years.
I am confident they'll become a strong and beautiful carrier.

Quoting laca773 (Reply 10): Are the 763s being put into storage?
Negative.
The 767s that are no longer with AZ were returned to the lessor and some of them are now with TAM and Varig. The remaining ones I believe only 5 of those are leased and one is owned, so I believe once they are retired they will go to another airline.
Quoting janmnastami (Reply 11): AZ made profits just in the third quarter (if I remember correctly), but in 2009 it lost about 300 million euro.
True, but that loss was totally expected. The company was bleeding out and a recovery wan't sought but after at least a year of operations... and that's what ended up happening!

Quoting laca773 (Reply 10): I was looking for the thread about LAX being re-instated? What is the start date? Will they be using the 77E on this flight?
Flights to LAX start on June 5, and yes, they will be operated with 777s This is the schedule:
Thank you for the information, airdolomiti. I apreciate it. I hope LAX works out for AZ this time around. If the 777 capacity ends up being too much, can AZ utilize their 332s on the FCO-LAX-FCO without substantial penalty?

Los Angeles-Rome is the fifth most traveled city pair between the U.S. and Italy after the NYC/MIA-MIL/ROM pairs. It is definitely not too much capacity - the market is actually quite large but there is barely any premium traffic to speak of.
