I had a question for anyone familiar with Tatarstan Air Company/Airlines.

I visited Kazan, Tatar ASSR/Tatarstan in 1991 and again in 1992.

In 1992, I flew on a chartered An-24 from then-Leningrad to Kazan. The aircraft was chartered by the city government of Kazan at the last minute and I assume it was from the Aeroflot Leningrad Directorate.

The same summer, I flew from Kazan to Moscow Domodedovo (way before it was renovated) on a Yak-42 of the Aeroflot Kazan Directorate.

My understanding was that the Kazan Directorate became Tatarstan Air Company/Airlines. I assume the Yak-42 that I flew on remained in its fleet. Any information?

I was also wondering about the Yak-42's deployment in the final years of the USSR.

Was Kazan Directorate one of the few recipients of the aircraft? I know it had initial operating problems with the initial versions of he design. Later versions seem a little more reliable. However, on my flight, we were initially led out to the aircraft to find that they were working on an engine. We then hung around the tarmac for about 15 minutes and then boarded and the flight proceeded without incident. The interior was very shoddy and worn and had that particular Aeroflot odor to it.

One correction. My flights on Aeroflot mentioned above were in 1991, not 1992. July 1991 to be exact.
