Just to clarify, I do know that TWA is now a subsidiary of American, but before they were bought out, they operated a St. Louis-Austin-McAllen, Texas route with an MD-80. Does anybody know how that route was doing, and if they still operate it?

At the moment, TWA still operates this route with a MD-80.
It departs STL at 5:10pm and arrives in McAllen at 9:06 after a stop in AUS.

I can say that I flew from McAllen a couple of times last year with Continental. I saw the boarding of TW service from MFE-AUS-STL and there were like 100 passengers. I don´t really know if it is profitable, but both of my CO flights were full, the first one being a B737-800 and the second one a MD80. So there are many people flying from the Valley region. I flew last week from BRO-IAH-CMH on CO and the BRO-IAH leg was full.
