I drove by the north side of the airport today and saw what appeared to be a 777-200 parked by the north cargo apron.
It looked to me like it had a UAE flag on the tail. Does anyone know anything else about this plane and why it was here?

did it look like this?).
Yea thats it!!! Any Idea what its doing in ORD?
Don't forget, EY (the actual carrier of the United Arab Emirates-not EK) flies AUH-ORD-ORD (and is codeshared with AA) so maybe Abu Dhabi Govt. is trying to promote trade, etc.

Yea might be. I remember seeing the 747SP at ORD a couple of years ago. That looked real nice!

The rare aircraft I would like to see at ORD is an An-124. However for other rare aircraft, I do always like looking over at the private GA parking near the remote parking lot at ORD and seeing what is there. Usually see BBJs and some chartered B727's bringing in sports teams.

If I ever catch wind of an IL-62 at ORD I'll drop whatever I'm doing and rush there camera-laden.

Quite a busy week this week at ORD with Middle Eastern aircraft in. There was a Saudi Arabian airlines charter in this morning (Monday 4/26) and this "mystery" 777-2 - which has been here before, and has been here for a week now - is being loaded up as I type this. It is my understanding that "the passenger" (yes, ONE plus entourage) is Queen Rania of Jordan. We should also be looking for the return to ORD soon of PIA, Pakistan Airlines, for regular scheduled service with a 777
"I ain't going if it's not Boeing" ... even though my Grandfather did work for McDonald Douglas.

Oh yea! ORD-BCN non stop! Now all we need is EK to make up their mind about ORD.

I was supposing a Russian or Ukrainian government visit.

My wife and mom are planning on taking this flight! My dad flew ORD-MAN when PK was flying this route with 5th freedom rights...he loved the service.
By the way, PK offered free limousine service for J-class pax. I wonder if they still will... ...

Wow I am super jealous. How can I efficiently keep track of Russian airliner activity at ORD? I've never seen one in real life and really would like to. Is there some way to get perhaps alerts from Flight Aware?

She's been hanging around Chicago. I think she is promoting a book. She was at a public school in Naperville making an appearance.

That's great news! I didn't know about that -- so you're saying this will be permanent, regular service, not seasonal? When can we expect to see them back?

I saw that too. It was the only 747SP I ever saw in real life, at least when I was old enough to know what it was.

Not to rub salt in open wounds or anything, but just thought I'd let you know that I've had the distinct pleasure of flying in both the Tu-154, Il-62, An-12 and the An-124. Even got a bit of stick time on the -62 as a professional courtesy, and I sat in the navigators seat on the An-12 for take-off and landing. Cost me a bottle of Voddy, but that's a fair deal.
From receips and radials over straight pipes to big fans - been there, done that, got the hearing defects to prove
