AM seems to be doing okay with their new schedule featuring two weekly departures between MSY and MEX. They are actually adding a 3rd weekly frequency in July, which will then feature Mo,We,Fr flights. Also, I've heard from some people that they could go back to 6X weekly in due time. In July the airline will mark one year of service in New Orleans...the first intl. carrier to serve the area since Hurricane Katrina. Here's hoping that TA, AC, or both, follow suit. The New Orleans area has bounced back and has a lot going for it.

Good to see they will add a third weekly frequency. Thanks for the update Stephen.

Any idea if they will finally implement a codeshare with DL?

Next flights: MEX-GRU (AM 77E), GRU-GIG (JJ A320), SDU-CGH (G3 73H), GRU-MEX (JJ A332).

Eddie I'm thinking sometime later this year I'll be due for another trip to MEX. What a great city you have there.

I don't see it in the schedules...I'm not sure why it hasn't started yet. IIRC, they received approval for it. The timings are perfect now for some connecting feed if DL chose to do so. Even w/o the connecting traffic (which granted would be minimal) the codeshare couldn't hurt given DL's large FF base in Southeast Louisiana.

I'm very surprised AC hasn't come back yet. What are they doing in CVG and SNA before MSY?!?

With the return of the convention business and the increased service by cruise lines (Royal Caribbean coming back in 2011 with Voyager of the Seas, NCL will be going year-round instead of seasonally, and with Carnival planning on adding a second ship) and general tourist traffic in general, I'm sure we'll see them back at some point...hopefully with something besides a CRJ because they very rarely could ever book it past 37 due to weight restrictions.

It is not even CRJ - AM uses RJ-145 on MSY-MEX routes! (I always use the A seats which are more comfortable).

Yeah I know, I was talking about AC's former service with CRJ.

I flew MSY-MEX and was quite comfortable in the ERJ...those A seats are great.

That's OK, better than nothing...I always though a 737 was too large for this route anyway. Would be great if AM were to increase Orleans to 6X.....

I hope to see TACA and AC at MSY some day, best of luck to New Orleans

Indeed. Would be great too if they at somepoint upgraded the route to E-190.

Hey y'all. At the A.B. Freeman School here in New Orleans we have plenty of Chilangos (Mexico City Natives) that take this flight. They say they are happy with it and hope it doesnt go away. They think its only a matter of time before AM stops it since the last times they and their families have flown it the flights have been half full both ways.

And you said in the Mexican Aviation thread, that it'd be too much... Maybe time for a two weekly in B737? Or not even that, maybe stick to the E-jets and go for the E190.

Sold out flights are not uncommon now since they've adjusted the timing of the flight to a much better daytime turn schedule. The original 6:00am departure from MSY and near 11:00pm arrival was probably a tough sell. Now...so much better. I can see them flying the 190 at some point for special events...conventions, festivals, etc. I'm just happy that they stuck it out. Who knows what the future will hold but the added frequency can only be a good sign.

It'd be too much for them to offer 737 service. That's what I wrote, and I still believe that.

This is my actual comment:

Quoting EddieDude (Reply 209):
I doubt there are plans for an aircraft upgrade, especially after the flight went down from daily to 2 or 3 weekly (that's correct, isn'it?). Plus, if AM ever upgrades MSY, I would imagine they would start with the E-190, not a mainline 73W.

But it makes me quite happy that they are going up from 2 to 3 weekly frequencies.

I am glad the loads are healthy. I hope AM can turn a profit at MSY so as to ensure their long-term permanence.

AM B737s ? Weren't they sending E-jets? E145s or E190s?

I think that was when they brought a bunch of charters here one day last year. I was listening to the scanner that day and it was great, just one AM after another and the controller giving them a warm welcome back.

Just as an update, AM has changed the schedules again...for the better.

The MEX-MSY service will operate daily X6 between 28Jun and 22Aug, and is scheduled to operate thrice weekly after 28Aug.
