Apr 28, 2010

NEW YORK, April 28 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Delta Air Lines (NYSE: DAL) today announced that in 2009 its customers and employees raised $1 million for The Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF), nearly twice what had been raised last year. Delta's larger customer and employee base created by its 2008 merger with Northwest Airlines in addition to expanded initiatives enabled the record fundraising.

Very cool! I haven't been on DeltaNet yet today, but when is the 764 supposed to be finished? And does this mean that once the new aircraft is finished, the 757 gets painted in the normal livery? I'm anxious to see the 764 in pink, I think it'll look great!

I think they should keep both as the 764 see's very few NA markets now. Also paint another one, like an A330 or 777, something that makes it to Asia so that there is a pink plane for this great cause to reach DL's world markets.

Sorry to bump, but does anyone know which particular aircraft is being repainted? Is it a 76C or 76D?

The 757 was great because they have so many of them, N610DL was able to perform and be a statuc display at several airshows, might be harder for this to happen with a 764...

The repaint isn't terribly surprising; 610 is in her twilight years and will probably go to the desert before too long.

I am pretty sure it will be painted by October.

Please delete my previous post. I have found out on another site (cannot post it here) that the aircraft will be N845MH, scheduled to be repainted on May 25.

Also, the livery will be somewhat different from N610DL; it will feature a pink underbelly and pink tail with a pink widget. The front logo will be the standard red widget and blue logotype, with the phrase "Force for Global Good" below it.

610 has been in the pink colors since 2005?! I still don't have a shot of it lol. Anyone able to check and see if it's going to pass though MCO the next few days?

It was originally in Pink Song livery when introduced in 2005, and then it was repainted to Pink Delta livery in 2006, initially featuring the previous Delta logo in pink. In 2007, the logo was updated to the current logo, although with the standard red widget and blue typeface.

I'd love to see a rendering of that. So it'll be the standard livery design, but with the blue replaced with pink on the bottom of the plane, and the the red widget on the tail painted pink? I think the tail will look cool, the pink will go well with the dark blue.

No, the both the tail and the widget will be pink, probably in different shades to for the widget to be visible.

Very cool, I really like it. I flew on 845 on ATL-DUB last summer. It was cool because we arrived 45 minutes early so we got to ground de-board. At any rate, very cool paint, I'm looking forward to seeing it in ATL this summer.

I also wonder, will the repaint occur in conjunction with the flat-bed mods? I know the mods should begin sometime soon, scheduled for completion in 2011.

Why not just paint another 757-200 as they mostly stay in the US market, not to mention alot of different US cities. As where the 764 only operates within Delta's US hub airports.

Are there any plans to paint another 757-200 in addition to 610DL, as many have mentioned is quickly becoming among the oldest 757's DL operates. Although a quick search of the FAA N-number registry show that 610DL is a leased aircraft.

only 2-3 5500 DAL-N 757s will be parked. The rest of the fleet is expected to stay around for a while.

Note DL will not over lease a 757 so if they cant re-lease them at a fair price then they shall be parked. I don't have the lease dates at this house, once i get my book ill she when 610 is due to be re-leased.

also note, its likely they will try to keep here as she is a 75X, none of which has been parked by Delta. only 757s.

yep.

As an additional idea, perhaps DL should also re-cover the seats on that particular aircraft (N845MH) with pink leather. That would go nice with some smooth jazz.

A couple of cents' worth:

1. If the paintwork carried the pink ribbons on the fin (as N610DL currently does) it would be much more obvious what it was intended to represent. The proposed 764 'pink' livery plays down the BCRF connection to the point where very many people will miss the point, IMHO. To put it another way: if you really want to say it, say it loud...

2. As our aircraft was taxiing to the gate at ATL after a recent DL flight, I overheard another passenger in one of the seats somewhere in front say "Look---there's the breast cancer plane over there!" So the promotion really works, for the BCRF and for Delta, too. (For the benefit of any DL marketing execs spying on this thread   )

That plane, unless parked at GRU all day or somewhere else, spends most of its time above the clouds. Would it not be better to paint another 757? I get the feeling more people would see it. Or at least a domestic 767 (-400s are all/mostly international, no?).
